Power bill keeps going up even when we use the same amount or around the same amount every month there's only two people in the house hold where I live my neighbor isn't even hardly home because of the way she works and her bill keeps going up also then on top of that a lot of us payers believes that the bill keeps going up to pay their employees but when a storm comes through and they have all kind of other crews come in to help it still takes days up to a week for them to get the power back on

Multiple power outages this month
Multiple power outages this month. However, Duke Energy refuses to provide any credits towards the next billing cycle. Their Justification? When there is an outage, they are unable to charge for energy consumption. While I understand energy bills are based off consumption, the inability to access the utility/service is a huge inconvenience that disrupts even the most basic daily functions.
The customer service rep I spoke with was rude, often speaking over me, and didn't or couldn't answer basic questions.

duke energy price gouges energy and our government allows them to increase our rates. $385 for gas and $215 for electricity. Duke energy owns piedmont natural gas so they have a monopoly over energy.

They will bill you for those getting financial assistance
This month, we had to pay about $350 when our average monthly bill is about $165 all because they are charging us extra to pay for those getting financial assistance in getting their bills paid. We are also in need of financial assistance, but we're not going to take advantage of the government like most currently are. If only there was a better electric company, but the government of course owns Duke Energy, so majority of us paying our bills on time get screwed either way. It's ridiculous to be honest. Nothing but crooks. Duke Energy is a horrible company to be working with. They take advantage of people all the time. They're the reasons why the dams in WNC were released during Hurricane Helene. All because of land grabbing. Crooks for sure.

Power was shut off 10 days after the bill was due for non payment. Seriously? Then they charge a security deposit that is more than twice my normal bill. How is this legal? I have been a customer for over 10 years and they are apparently so worried that they will go out of business if I don't pay my bill that they have to place a further financial hardship on me. How is a class action suit not filed against them for this extortion and targeting? News channels? Where are you?

Check the security of you connection when online with Duke Energy.
On 01-08-2026, I received an email saying I owed $291.xx, and that on 01-14-2026 my power would be turned off. That sounded about right for two months of service, but I had no idea why I received the notice as I have been on autopay for over three years. Perhaps my payment method, a credit card, passed its expiration date, and I needed to correct it. So I went online to Duke's Bill Pay, entered my credentials and password and was logged on. I was distracted for a brief moment by an incoming phone call. When I looked at the page again, my eyes fell on the URL in the address line. To my surprise, it began with: blob.duke-...... Yes, it clearly was "blob.duke..... I wish that I had taken a screenshot of it! I clicked on the security button by the URL and got a popup notice saying that I should exit immediately and not provide any information on this site. It suggested that it was NOT SECURE. I immediately closed the window. Hmmmm. Yet, when I had logged onto the URL in the drop down list of options for Duke Energy, this is where I landed, AND was able to logon using my username and password stored in my password manager (Widows 11 w/Malwarebytes). Someone out there has my credentials, and tried their best to get my money! I like to think that my having worked in IT kept me from donating to a hacker! Duke had better sharpen their security procedures and precautions. This could happen to any of Duke's millions of customers.

If I could give zero stars I would!!
If I could give zero stars I would!!! I’ve been trying to get an installment plan on my account for days. Was told by four different representatives that I can set it up. Just to be told by a supervisor it’s not their fault and their responsibility! They aren’t worried about their customers only money!!!

Duke Energy Greed
I am forced to be a Duke Energy customer since South Carolina chooses to be a "regulated utility" environment. As such, Duke has no competition. I also have my own solar implementation which was going great until now. The state of SC has allowed the greedy folks at Duke to now pay me far less for the energy that I push out to the grid, which Duke charges other customers the full amount for while they will now only pay me about 25% for. In addition they are now charging a Non-bypassable Charge per month, per kW capacity of my system. In both cases Duke states it's because I am using their infrastructure. In essence, they are charging me twice for the same thing. What is mentioned or taken into consideration by the SC regulators and Duke is the costs that I have had to pay to obtain the equipment as well as my costs for ongoing maintenance. How far is the PSC in South Carolina allow this greedy company to go?
