I am currently behind on my electric bill which I realize but due to unfortunate circumstances out of my control. I have asked for an extension Duke energy cannot provide that if my turn off date is October 21st I just asked to extend it to October 28th when I get my social security they cannot do that. I have checked all resources with 211 filed applications so far no responses. I'm at a loss I cannot believe Duke energy cannot help me at this time I have a security deposit on this account also I'm not going anywhere I will pay this bill but in the meantime they're going to turn off my electric and then charge me a hookup fee I feel that's very unfair

High Utility bills
High Utility bills. Poor response time for outages. Disregard for their customers. They do nothing right. The company needs to be investigated.

Gas flame on stove was orange
Gas flame on stove was orange. Internet said call company. "JJ", the service technician, was sooooo nice. It's hard to put into words about how great he is. Professional, courteous, beyond polite. I hope you appreciate him as much as I do.
"JJ" is personally welcome at my home anytime.

Extremely disappointing experience
Unfortunately, one star is more than deserved based on our experience with Duke Energy.
Our power pole fell, leaving live electrical wires lying on the ground, which was obviously a serious safety concern. Duke Energy’s response was simply to shut off our power and tell us that replacing the pole and relocating the meter box was our responsibility.
What was most frustrating was the complete lack of help or concern in trying to guide us through an extremely stressful and potentially dangerous situation. The customer service was absolutely horrible.
When I started looking at reviews online and saw so many one star experiences, I understood why. Unfortunately, customers don’t have the option of choosing another electric company when Duke Energy is the provider for their area. It certainly feels like there is very little incentive to provide good customer service when your customers have nowhere else to go.
Extremely disappointing experience from a company providing such an essential service.

Bait, Switch, and Monopoly Math: Duke Energy Gutted Rooftop Solar.
If you are considering investing in rooftop solar with Duke Energy as your utility provider, think twice—or better yet, don't walk, run.
Duke Energy and the NC Utilities Commission just effectively pulled the rug out from underneath residential solar owners. Under the guise of transitioning customers to the "Net Metering Bridge" (Rider NMB), they have systematically destroyed the return on investment that thousands of homeowners paid tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket to build.
Here is the reality of their "key change":
Previously, true 1:1 net metering allowed you to bank the kilowatt-hours your panels overproduced on long summer days and roll those actual energy credits forward into winter when production drops. That was the entire economic model used to calculate solar payback periods.
Under Rider NMB, Duke Energy terminates those rolling kWh credits. Instead, they will force you into a monthly cash-out where they purchase your hard-earned excess generation at dirt-cheap, wholesale/avoided-cost rates—mere pennies on the dollar. Then, the very next month when the sun isn't shining and you need power, they turn right around and bill you the full retail kWh rate plus delivery fees. They buy your energy for pennies and sell it back to you at retail price.
To add insult to injury, they slap a mandatory minimum monthly bill charge on top of it all, guaranteeing they extract cash from your wallet even if your panels generate every single watt your household consumes.
Duke Energy didn't adapt to clean, distributed home energy; they used regulatory leverage to ensure a protected monopoly can keep taking its cut while penalizing homeowners who tried to produce their own power. An absolute slap in the face to residential solar customers.

I was double billed for the same month
I was double billed for the same month. I called and talked to a rep. She said they would mail me a check. I called today and was told too bad. We cannot refund your money. Duke posted for my October bill. Cannot trust a company who lies to its customers.
