What was once a brilliant concept - getting strangers to become friends through interaction and stays in a safe environment - has become a travesty. And the administration team that runs it doesn't care. They don't reply to emails if the subject matter is uncomfortable for them - like demanding to know how a single 'contribution' to keep the site going through COVID has become an annual charge without prior notification. Their contempt for community users is disgraceful. I can't see it lasting much longer. It is poorly policed: there are many thousands of redundant or dormant profiles, largely created by single males looking for sex with single female travellers. This creates a totally false impression of the real number of hosts (that is much MUCH smaller) who are able and willing to share their home.

Catastrophique. A FUIR ! Le service est devenu payant et la base d'utilisateurs qui faisait sa force est devenu inexistante. Ne faites pas l'erreur de payer une inscription. Couchsurfing n'a plus rien à offrir et essaye juste d'engranger de l'argent facile sans proposer aucun service. Couchsurfing est mort. Dommage, il faut une époque où c'était l'occasion de belles rencontres en voyage.

Used to be a great platform, recent moves have caused it to deteriorate. Charging users a fee for what was a social movement is inappropriate. Plenty of alternatives, though!

I’ve been on CS since 2017 and due to the pandemic then had to shake things up a bit. Yes this was annoying but it’s less than a cup of coffee a month to stay active on the leading couchsurfer website which actually has some safeguarding, relatively streamlined system and a customer service that seems to actually take action. I’ve tried other CS websites and they seem more clunky, but definitely useable. Also, having an app makes things much more usable. Please just read/double read what you’re signing up to and if you’re unsure then do it on a credit card so you can do a charge back in the worst cases

You buy the membership (reasonable amount) and enter the verification process... you are then offered the choice to be verified by credit card... and within 3sec of clicking on yes, verify me with my credit card, you are charged 87CAD! When you attempt to reach a support service of any kind, you realize there is no such thing on their website. UTTER AND COMPLETE SCAM

This used to be an amazing app. But now, that they implemented an annual fee, a lot of people - including myself - did not continue using it. Purely because paying for the ideology of CouchSurfing feels wrong. Now the worldwide community is broken up.

Terrible. They try to make you get verified and don’t explicitly state that you have to pay $60. And they made it to where you can’t get a refund anymore. Never using.
