Finally. A place where we can say something about Couchsurfing. Couchsurfing WAS a great idea that worked for many years. Even when they gone "not volunteer". BUT... they f.ck.d everything in only a day. MEMBERSHIP? FEES? So... i was a host for 7 years. I only hosted people. So... i have to PAY so i can HOST FREELY in my house/ home? Where does it make sense? Couchsurfing... RIP... i am sad, disapointed, cheated... I already changed to other platforms. You will soon disappear. You killed the golden-egg chicken.

Couchsurfing USED TO BE a fantastic website and what a great concept! As of 2021, what a disaster it has become! Most of the messages in the GROUPS area are a decade or so old!! That makes so much to wade through that you can’t find anything pertinent for today’s world (advice, suggestions, etc). And this $14.99? After I paid it and saw how ratty the site looks, I wrote to complain and got a cut-and-paste “we don’t care” emailed response. Reading the reviews below saying it’s no longer volunteer-run, they are blocking people without explanation (I found out just now they did that to my one CS host, too), etc means DO NOT USE anymore!!

People are moving away from using Couchsurfing and coming over to BeWelcome. BeWelcome will take over soon from Couchsurfing. Especially since Couchsurfing is generating 22 million Dollars in just one year in Profit. Cheeky. They were asking us all to donate money and contribute and then the news comes out that they have made a 22 million dollar profit in just one year and I did a google search on couchsurfing and turns out they are listed in USA as one of the Richest online businesses with a turnover of 55 million dollars. And they are worth over 50 million dollars if anyone wants to purchase the business. They have been purchased by someone recently and now they are under new management and they have new rules. Lots of people are getting their profiles suspended or deleted because of the new rules. I had 150 positive references on my Couchsurfing profile and one day without any warning they decided to suspend me. I know other people on Couchsurfing with similar experiences. I was one of the initial and original pioneers on couchsurfing. I helped organise like 750 events on Couchsurfing Groups. From picnics in the park to hiking to camping trips to tourist tours. I HAD hosted over 55 people in London since 2008 and had stayed with over 50 people from all over the world and I had made over 250 friends on couchsurfing and met over 1000 people via couchsurfing in the past 13 years since 2008. They deleted my profile and I sent them 100 emails asking them why and I did not receive a single response from them. I know other Couchsurfing members with same or similar experiences. Threatened to take them to court and take legal action against them and then they still did not respond. Couchsurfing is completely acting like a gangster Run company. Or it's a company run by little children or teenagers with no idea how to look after loyal customers. I think BeWelcome will take over eventually or match couchsurfing in its appeal because it has the original concept of couchsurfing and without the greedy and profit driven agenda and BeWelcome is being managed by responsible individuals with a correct and mature attitude on how to run an online hospitality site. You have to check these other reviews on this page - people have written about CS they make scary reading.

When it was managed by volunteers, it use to be great. Now it is a profit organization that illegally have stolen our data.

Paying to stay with someone for free? That’s not logic!

Couchsurfing war mal eine gute Sache, bevor es so kommerziell wurde. Habe die App, v.a. die Hangout-Funktion immer gerne genutzt wenn ich unterwegs war. Nun gibt es seit 5/20 nur noch Pay-Mitgliedschaft, angeblich wegen Corona. Leider wurde das nicht kommuniziert und viele Leute sind gegangen. Aktuell wurde mir jetzt das Profil gesperrt, da ich den Beitrag nicht zahlen kann. Als Zahlungsoption gibt es nur Kreditkarte, und ich habe keine. Wenn man sich an den 'Support' wendet, bekommt man immer die gleichen Computer-Antworten. Update: Nachdem die Paywall kam konnte man auch wieder andere Zahlmethoden wählen.

I'm a loyal user for years, and I hosted many guests over time. Nevertheless, the app is now only usable with subscription and I believe there should still be free membership. It's a community-based project, so at least the people who contributed their efforts by organizing events or hosting shouldn't be forced to pay. I understand it's important to monetize the project and cover your costs, so it’s fine to have some premium membership. But who helped Couchsurfing become what it is, and suddenly have to pay, this is just disappointing.

I will do whatever is possible to help an opensource fork from couchsurfing to take over this terrible scamming company
