This used to be one of the best websites out there, one of the best ideas I had ever witnessed and they have ruined it. I was hoping they’d go back to how things were in time, but it hasn’t happened and I don’t see ANY justification for them to start charging and especially with such ridiculous prices. I consider especially dodgy the fact that you can’t even access your profile now or answer to messages. Those are MY details and I feel my data is not being properly managed if I don’t even have access to my own data.

I had a really bad experience with a host who asked me for money after midnight and couchsurfing did nothing. This guy is still on the platform with good reviews and Couchsurfing don’t care about it. It’s literally a jungle. Also my girlfriend suffered from sexual harassment, sent emails to Couchsurfing and they never replied. Worst app ever!!! Don’t trust it!!!

When I opened the website after not visiting it for 2 years, the big window asked me to get verification with credit card. I thaught that they will hold 1 Euro, bot they charged me for almost 60. That was no information that verification means "to pay". I wrote to the Support team immediately and asked my money back, but they answer that the don't do refunds anymore. I even didn't use this service and most likely will not use it anymore. They just are blocking all my following requests. That's just scam model.

Stay away from this website! I have tried an experience about my data. I uploaded a photo and then copy the link of the image (Right click -> copy URL of the image) for later use. Then I deleted my photo to see if they really deleted my photo but "surprise" when I pasted the URL of the image on the browser the photo is still here. I deleted all cache, the photo is still online (but visible only if you have the URL). I waited for severals weeks (more than 90 days) to see if the photo is still here, "surprise again" it's still online. This process don't respect the privacy and don't protect our data. I still wondering why the store the photo even if I deleted it. What they will do with it? Why storing data (unused data) while they said that they don't have money to maintain the (big) servers. If really they need to money, why they don't purge old profiles and really delete photos? On some profiles you can see that the members was not logged since 10 years! All theses things are suspicious and don't recommend people to use it. If you already have an account, try the experience and you will see.

I was charged 56 euros without even being notified! Ridiculous!

Très mauvaise gestion financière d'un site qui était vraiment génial à la base, au point maintenant qu'il est même impossible de récupérer ses données et de fermer son compte sans payer de frais !! Espérons que cette entreprise coule vite et soit racheté par un mécène ou un collectif capable de redonner vie à l'esprit du couchsurfing.
