Scammers demanding payment just to enter the site!

Attention ! L'esprit de Couchsurfing a bel et bien disparu. Après avoir payé 2,99€ pour pouvoir accéder au site, je remets mon profil à jour. Je valide naïvement la demande de vérification (qui est gratuite sur d'autres sites similaires) et je me retrouve immédiatement débitée de 56€. Je contacte dans la foulée le support pour leur expliquer le problème et mes difficultés financières, on me répond sans aucun détour que leur politique est zéro remboursement ! Je lance aujourd'hui une procédure de contestation auprès de ma banque, en croisant les doigts. Fuyez !

I’m not happy with the service. It’s quite misleading to ask for my payment for verification. My fault of not going through everything first. Any chance to get a refund? Feel scammed. I used PayPal to pay it. I thought it was just a card verification.

If you’ve been duped into “verification” and charged the £51 subscription fee without consent, raise a dispute with your bank to try and get your money back. It worked for me! In the first instance contact couchsurfing customer service requesting a refund, which they’ll refuse citing a blanket no refund policy. Save all correspondence and your PayPal receipt or bank statement showing the payment. Importantly, couchsurfing don’t provide a proof of payment receipt, which you can cite as evidence that it’s an unlawful payment (it’s a good idea to mention in your emails to them that seeing as you haven’t been issued a receipt you’ll be reporting it to your bank as a fraudulent transaction. This way you have further evidence to support your dispute claim with the bank). Screenshot all correspondence and proof of payment and raise a dispute with your bank a minimum of 14 days since your last communication with couchsurfing. I’m sad to see what was once a trustworthy and positive organisation has resorted to such manipulative tactics to stay afloat financially and I suspect they’re digging their own grave with this approach. Shame.

Hace tres días pagué una suscripción mensual de 2,99€ y couchsurfing me ha cobrado otros 56€ de forma fraudulenta. Lo veo hoy, los contacto, y no aceptan ninguna responsabilidad y se niegan a devolverme el dinero. He estado usando couchsurfing desde hace 8 años, pero ahora recomiendo a todos los viajeros que no paguen nada por couchsurfing porque parece que no son confiables y te estafan. Espero que nadie más pierda su dinero. Three days ago I paid for monthly suscription for 2,99€ and couchsurfing have charged me other 56€ fraudulently. I see it today, contact them, and they don't accept any responsability and deny to give my money back. I've been using couchsurfing since 8 years ago but now I recommend all travelers to don't pay anything to couchsurfing cause it seems they are not reliable and scam you. Hope nobody more lose his/her money.
