Like everyone else, I was scammed. Couchsurfing.com used to be a wonderful community and website when I used it 13 years ago. I thought I was returning to that good community, but my old account was gone so I signed up again. And then I clicked to verify, they asked for my credit card. There was no indication of a charge. I thought it was just to verify my identity. But then, BAM, £51 were taken off of me. I tried to contact them for a refund, but their policy is no refunds. Because I made the charge on my debit card, I may be SOL. But I'm gonna try to get it back. I'm willing to fill out a police report if I need to. bewelcome.org seems to be the new place to go that is actually good. I haven't tried it myself, but two people have recommended it to me.

Pre-Pandemic it was ok only few bad experiences but mostly good. Recently I wanted to be active and then they ask for payment, ok I paid then realized it’s totally different website now, help/support phone number removed and emails they take ages to reply in a robotic way! Meanwhile it’s full of freaks and those can write about you Bad stuff & ruin your reputation. Even when you never hosted yet and just met. Sad.

Ich habe vor sehr langer Zeit CS intensiv genutzt. Mit der Plattform waren unglaublich schöne Reisen und Kontakte in aller Welt erst möglich. Ein grosses Netz der Gastfreundschaft baute sich auf. Nun muss ich feststellen, dass sich mein langsam durch Erfahrungen und Referenzen aufgebautes Profil hinter einer Paywall verbirgt und bin enttäuscht. Ich werde mich an den kostenlosen Alternativen orientieren und ihnen beim Wachsen helfen. Schade.

I have had an account which is maybe 10 years old. And I have had great reviews from people all around the world. They have had a very bad system from the very beginning, I am also software developer and their mobile app is always problematic on hangouts. And even I make purchase on mobile, it did not accept my subscription and when I make purchase on web it did accept and I realize that it gets payment for both of the application under the same account next month :D I have written to them. Their great support, even I assume they earn millions of dollars since it is payment driven platform, they could fix it in two weeks. And two days earlier I have realised that they get me deactivated, when I login to my account, it displays that please write to support but when I write to them they have replied that they can not explain the reason due to the privacy :D So why I should write them, just to read this? It is the worst joke of all my lifetime. And I request them to explain why I break their terms of violation, everyday gangs are fighting in the streets in today's world, I am 38 but never been to police station because of any guilty. I think that is what they are not happy about, therefore they deleted my account. Please explain my guilty and get me ashamed instead of reading this comment. And also they cancel your profile for nothing but I have yearly subscription just a few months ago I have done. Is not it unfair that they keep my money. Just tell me any shop in any where in the world, they cancel your subscription but keep your money. Maybe Hitler or Mussolini but I guess noone else.

I had used Couchsurfing in the past with no issues so I did not bother checking the reviews when I applied again for the membership. I wish I did. Like many other people, they charged me a lifetime verification fee that was never approved on my end. They never mentioned that there was a fee for the verification and it is only when I got the receipt via email that i found out. I sent them an email right away to complain but of course, I did not get any answers. A very sneaky and unethical way of making money. I will never use this website again.

Terrible company. It's just a scam. Beware of the "identity confirmation", it's just an excuse to charge your credit card. Right now I'm demanding a refund and the website just says they don´t do them.

The biggest scammer you never heard of. They set the site up to make you pay 56 euros in the same way those cheap airlines try to make you think some payments are mandatory. I got zero service. If they knew they were a service, they would give me my refund that I asked for the second the payment was made. I thought I'd pay 2 euros, and I was charged 56 euros!!!

19.03.2023 Couchsurfing stole money from my bank card. I didn't link any card to my couchsurfing profile, i didnt subscribe for anything, i havent even used it for several years at all. But they somehow managed to withdraw from my card €9.97. I communicated with their support for about 3 weeks. It normally takes them 3-4 days to react to any request. The only answer i got from them was the following: they are not going to return my money as it is their policy! The charge you for something without your confirmation or agreement and then refuse to return the stolen money. Yesterday they informed me that they delete my ticket as they did for me everything they could - exactly and absolutely NOTHING! Dont try to use Couchsurfing. In 21 century with all the apps, social Networks and media it is easy to find friends all over the world and Couchsurfing is an obsolete and unnecessary, especially with their peculiar attitude to people who they steal money from.
