Wrong item - Scam Customer Service
I received the wrong item. I ordered shoes with a heel strap and was sent a pair without a heel strap. I immediately emailed and provided the info that the Bareroots website indicated was necessary. Website even has a place that describes what to do when you receive the wrong item. The return/refund policy on the website also says that the customer isn’t responsible for return shipping costs if they received the wrong item. I provided order number and pictures of the wrong item received. It took 3 days for me to get a response. The response asked me to send pictures again so they could understand my situation. I re-sent pictures. Customer service usually takes a couple of days to respond. They told me I’d have to pay for return shipping or they offered 75% store credit (why would I want credit for a store that sends wrong items?). When I told them that these options weren’t reasonable, they finally offered 30% refund of the purchase price. Still no offer to cover shipping costs after sending wrong item - even though their website says they will. Today, after 2 weeks of back and forth, I decided to accept the 30% refund because I just need this to be over. I responded to the email chain and wouldn’t you know it - the email was undeliverable. I’ve been attempting to re-send it today and it continues to be undeliverable. The shoes are low quality but they weren’t expensive so I wasn’t expecting much. I did expect to receive the correct item though. If you are lucky enough to receive what you ordered, then this company might be fine. I feel that I’ve been scammed and also that I’m probably communicating with a customer service bot. Their phone # on the website also doesn’t work. Edit (1/8/26): I’m currently in the process of disputing the purchase with my credit card company and advise you to do this as well if you are in a similar situation. Edit (1/9/26): after about a week of no contact, I received an email about a full refund from BAREROOTS! It wasn’t part of my email chain with customer service, but maybe it’s in response to the dispute I filed with my credit card company yesterday. I will see if/when I actually receive a refund and MAY change my rating.
