10 yr battery that dies with 5 year warranty
In November 2021, I bought a smoke detector from X-sense on Amazon because it showed that it had a 10 year sealed battery. Less than five years into my purchase there seems to be a short in the smoke detector, so I reached out to the company. Initially, their customer service was very helpful and told me some steps to follow so I could get a replacement sent to me. However, today, Cora from their customer service notified me that their 10 year battery actually only has a five year warranty and instead they would offer me 10% off of a future purchase. I consider this very deceptive business practices. A smoke detector does not have any daily use by a consumer; it’s simply there to detect smoke if there is any. Meaning, I certainly did not exceed usage in the almost 5 years. I’ve had it, so the fact that it lived only as long as its warranty is questionable. I’m a little surprised that a company would be so blatantly uninterested in keeping a customer because they feel that their five-year warranty should cover a 10 year battery. Why not advertise it as a five year device? I’m a little surprised that a company would be so blatantly uninterested in keeping a customer because they feel that their five-year warranty should cover a 10 year battery. Why not just say the battery is five years? There are many other options for smoke detectors, a very important part of our homes and protecting our families. It is sad that this company does not care.

Dear Lorio Oreo, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re truly sorry for the frustration and disappointment caused by this experience. We understand why the description of a 10-year sealed battery could lead you to expect the detector to remain operational for 10 years, and we’re sorry that the distinction between the battery’s expected service life and the product’s warranty period was not clear enough. We’re also sorry that our resolution did not meet your expectations, especially after you initially received assistance with a replacement. We certainly do not want you to feel that your concerns were dismissed or that we are uninterested in retaining you as a customer. Your feedback regarding the product description, warranty communication, and the proposed resolution has been shared with our team for review. We would also appreciate the opportunity to look into your specific case again and see whether there is anything further we can do. Please contact us at [email protected] with your order details, and we’ll be happy to review it with you. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. Best regards, X-Sense Team
