Email was a disaster
Hosting was fine. Fast, even for a windows server running PHP. I've found in the past that running PHP on a Linux client is much faster, but this was good. I needed to host a .Net site concurrently, so this was convenient. They offer Full trust, which was also good. The only bad thing that will keep me from continuing the service is bulk email. They allow up to 4,000 outgoing emails a day if you throttle the sending, which is awesome. But, I didn't need quite that much. At the start, I needed to send out 110 emails via SMTP server on a Wordpress site one day. After 25 emails sent, nothing else was sent out. Turns out, I was flagged as SPAM by their email filter. After three attempts and a full week of fixing things, it never really was fixed. I chose to stay with GoDaddy (ugh) and use a third party email company. The only reason I chose WinHost was because of the email claim. If you have light email needs, you probably will not have an issue.

Thanks for the feedback, J, sorry we couldn't get things straightened out for you. Email going out from websites (like a WordPress installation) go through more rigorous spam checks than regular email sent from a desktop or webmail client. The reason for that is that spammers typically use compromised websites to do their dirty work. It's much more rare that they spam through compromised email accounts. So mail is filtered differently out of necessity, depending on the source. When someone is doing application based or bulk email and runs in to problems because of our spam filtering, we'll often suggest a third party email service (as it seems you're using now), simply because that's their specialty and you're less likely to run in to problems related to those types of mailings. And you're right, people with typical email needs don't usually experience any problems related to spam filtering.
