Hugely disappointed. I'd say avoid. Food & drink/wine awful, same each day. Excursions nothing like Viking told one > e Bike excursions were good. Not their fault but because of lack of rain & consequent shallow river had to change boats (pack/unpack) , travelled a day by bus and missed some of the best parts of the cruise(Mostly right wing, Trump Americans.)

Viking River Cruise
Margaret W. the lady in Texas who booked the trip for us was EXCELLENT. What a pleasure to deal with. The free excursions given by Viking were not bad. We learned a lot of history on the tours. The boat was VERY LAME. I knew going into the cruise there was no pools or casino but I did expect some entertainment at night. On an 8 day cruise there were 2 nights of 20 minute trivia only. What a joke. And now for the real dissappointment…. We pre booked and paid for a Mercedes Benz tour. Before the cruise even began the tour was cancelled because the plant was closed for the week. We booked another tour thinking the money would go towards the new tour. (Everything was done by Viking). When paying the final bill onboard we noticed we were charged for the replacement tour. Ok… No Problem, I will call billing and explain the situation and get reimbursed. Yeah right. I was told that any cancelled tour money is given as onboard credit for a FUTURE CRUISE. WTH!!!!!!After this debacle what makes them think I will ever cruise with them again. Also besides the everyday menu the food on the boat was awful. And once the kitchen closes down after each meal there was nothing to snack on until the next meal. On a positive note The Moven Pick hotel had the BEST BUFFET BREAKFAST of any hotel I have ever been in, in any country. The one in Amsterdam . I could go on and on about the negativity but I think you get my drift. Trett Ross …Viking Kara

Viking knew weeks before our cruise…
Viking knew weeks before our cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam Was ment to be on the Vali but started on the Tir because the River was to low.Latter we transfered again to the Vali because we couldnt get thru another part of the river so had to bus it to the Vali. Annoucements on the ship we delivered as if a surprise .We spent hours on buses .stayed in average to substand accomodation and ha cheap smorg borg dinners in hotels or cheap resturants with fixed menu. Viking were not honest and could have given us the option of a full refund or rebooking at a later date weeks before we flew from New Zealand for the 14 day cruise. IF I WANTED TO HAVE EARLY PACKING AND BUS TRIPS I WOULD HAVE BOOKED A BUS TOUR! I FOUND VIKING DISHONEST AND WILL BE APPLYING FOR A FULL REFUND. VIKING VALI .

Viking is not the answer, they are the problem!
If I could have given Viking a zero, I would have. Right from the start, the booking process was a disaster. They screwed up every single detail, from drink packages, flights co-ordination, to seats on the planes. I had to constantly check re-check and then check again, right up until departure day.
Our cruise was impacted by low water on the Danube and I get that, it is out of their control. But, the 2 pearls of this trip, Budapest and Vienna, we only got to spend 1 1/2 hours in and half that time was eaten up by bus tours. We expected to be moored close to the city, in fact, Viking proudly sells you on that feature. Instead, we were well outside the cities and again, needed to be bussed into the cities. And speaking of busses, we spent over 13 hours on busses during our Danube cruise, some to and from the airports, but a lot was just to get to cities we expected to walk into. We never got to eat dinner in any of these cities that were on our itinerary. The view from our balcony room on every day except one was that of another cruise boat tied up to ours.
The staff, once on board, was excellent. But they in no way were able to compensate for the shear rotten experience of our trip. We would have been better staying home than waste good money on this company. The ironic thing is, the staff knew that this cruise should have been cancelled but the company is only interested in making money so let the buyer beware. There are much better options out there than Viking!

Avoid if you don't want a cruise.Its…
Avoid if you don't want a cruise. Its now been substituted with long bus trips, cancelled excursion and not even seeing the places on the itinerary.Dont refund, and your left with a holiday not fit for a dog.Customer service is a joke, they tell you what they want you to hear, not truthful in any contact. Will never use again.Make sure you have bullet proof insurance,as their terms are a stich up con.

Viking HUGE Disappointment
We are writing about our recent Chateaux, Rivers & Wine cruise, which we booked with the Paris pre-cruise extension and purchased in full through Viking, including airfare and Trip Protection. We saved and planned for this trip for a long time and traveled with family members to share it. We are in our late sixties and early seventies, and we chose Viking specifically because of its reputation for taking care of guests from door to door. That is not the experience we had. During the bus excursion to the chateau dinner, i became violently ill, most likely from food poisoning. It was the chateau's staff, not the Viking staff present, who helped us. We had to arrange and pay for our own taxi back to the Forseti at a cost of 90 euros. Back on board, my husband asked the crew for electrolytes for Me and was told no, they were available only for crew. He then asked whether he could get a sandwich or soup, since he had missed dinner caring for his wife, and was told nothing was available. A single kind crew member later quietly brought us electrolyte tablets and soup on her own initiative. We are grateful to her, but a sick 68-year-old guest should not depend on a crew member breaking the rules to receive basic care. On a ship whose guests are overwhelmingly seniors, this is unacceptable. Our cruise took place during an extreme, well-forecast heat wave. We understand Viking does not control the weather. What Viking does control is its response, and there was none. No cold water was available on any walking or bus tour. Room-temperature bottles were offered only at debarkation, and none were stocked on the buses. There were no wheelchairs on board, and we heard guests told that two days' notice was required to obtain one. For a company that markets primarily to travelers 65 and older, the absence of basic heat and mobility protocols put guests at real risk. Our cruise took place during an extreme, well-forecast heat wave. For a company that markets primarily to travelers 65 and older, the absence of basic heat and mobility protocols put guests at real risk. When our Viking-booked return flight was canceled, we were first told these things usually resolve themselves and to be ready for the 4:00 a.m. airport transfer. Hours later we learned we had been rebooked two days out. When we asked the front desk what to do, we were told to get a cab, book our own hotel, save our receipts, and file later. No one could tell us where to file them, and to this day no one has. After we pushed, a Trip Protection representative rebooked us for the following day, but again the only guidance was to save our receipts. Viking dropped us at the Air France counter and left. We then spent three hours waiting for the airline to arrange a hotel. The vouchers did not cover our actual costs: we missed the lunch window and paid for lunch ourselves, dinner ran 17 euros plus tip over the allowance, and because breakfast and the hotel shuttle both started after our required departure time, we paid for a taxi to the airport. We also paid for food during a long delay in Lyon. We have receipts for every one of these expenses.
Viking sold us this trip as a fully managed, worry-free experience and sold us Trip Protection on that same promise. When things went wrong, Viking's answer at every turn was that the problem was ours to solve. That is the opposite of what we paid for
• We did not want to write this letter. We wanted the trip Viking advertised. There were so many moments when Viking could have stepped up, and the one person who did had to do it quietly.

Poor customer service
On June 20, 2026 I contacted Viking cruise lines by phone. I believe the man I spoke with was named Dan he was based in California. We discussed booking a cruise on a Rhine River cruise in May 2027 during the conversation I gave him my credit card number for a $50 deposit to hold a cabin while still on the call. I spoke with my wife and we realized we could not go at that time. I asked to cancel the deposit. He said it was already processed and could not be done. I explained that I was still on the call. This was a cruise that was almost a year away and that we were not able to attend. He would not refund the deposit so I called my credit card company and they have refunded the $50 deposit. This was extremely poor customer service in my opinion and it has definitely made me not want to work with Viking cruise lines in the future.

Wonderful time with Viking.
We have just come off a Viking river cruise (Budapest to Passau) and what a wonderful experience. We had four flights, the first Cardiff to Schiphol & then Schiphol to Budapest perfect. On board the Aegiar we were welcomed shown to our stateroom (we could not fault) and from there on in we had a wonderful time. Mario the entertainment officer lived up to his title very entertaining. And all the waiters were so friendly and helpful at all times. The ship was clean, they had a coffee, tea, hot chocolate stations with cookies and pastries to hand anytime off the day or night. The food on board was varied and always delicious. On the way home we had two flights again Munich to Schiphol and then Schiphol to Cardiff. Well worth the flight travel and would most certainly do it again. Dress code was a bit hit & miss but hey your on holiday.
