The Viking cruise was wonderful. Their third party travel insurance is a joke. NEVER use Trip Mate. I'm really surprised Viking has chosen to partner with a one star travel insurance provider. They asked for receipts, itinerary, travel dates, etc. They refused to pay a dime. I spent over $1200, had a $900 claim and got zero from them. We were never offered alternative travel insurance...this was the one they said we should go with. Shame on Viking!

On board guest services were atrocious , house cleaning were great ,the ship was clean , food was ok , coffee was terrible . Too many elderly people making excursions and even getting around the boat was a nightmare , included ecursions were lackluster to say the least . 2 days at Shimizu (a nothing to do tiny port ) and 1/2 day in Osaka was a joke . A zimmer frame seemed to be a requirement , Restaurant staff were either really good and professional or just terrible . Guests were mainly Americans . We did not feel we got value for money . We will not repeat this experience with Viking ever again

Booked a future cruise onboard. We thought it was expensive and told the cruise representative we would like to check other lines. She stated we could reserve the room with a $50. deposit each and if we changed our mind we would only loose $100. or transfer it to a future cruise. We found the same cruise with another line at a a much better rate. We cancelled and found out Viking had charged us $5500. for cruise insurance that we did not need until final booking 6 months later. They would not refund the unnecessary cruise insurance, saying we requested it. Why would I pay $5500. to insure $100.? In 20yrs of cruising we have always put the insurance on at time of FINAL BOOKING. Viking scammed us and they refuse to make it right! BEWARE OF THIS VIKING TACTIC!!!

I'm writing this in advance of our upcoming cruise on 10/19/26. Due to low water level on the Rhine River, our upcoming cruise, on 10/19/26, will be interrupted by being busses around the low water points. I understand it's out of Viking's control. What I don't understand is why Viking will not offer cash back in lieu of a voucher that I WILL NEVER USE!!

My wife and I went on a river cruise as we thought that Viking was at the top of Luxury Cruises. We went on a river Cruise on the Danube and out of ten days we spent five days and the food was horrible! This was outlet 37TH anniversary and we spent most of the time on Busses and we missed most of our sights. I called and complained both on the first night to customer service and also to our Travel consultant but have never received any response or email or Even an apology. For the amount that this cost us the least Viking could have at least acknowledged My complaints or emails. No response it not what you want from customer service. I wanted to tell everyone about this situation

We took the Rhine Get Away cruise. We knew the Rhine water levels were low but we received an email saying we would be bused and do a ship swap but would keep to the itinerary (just a couple of days before going). Probably so we would not cancel our cruise. I called right up to the day we left and was told the same by everyone at Viking. One day into the cruise they changed our itinerary and we did not get to see 3 out of 4 of the very cities that were the entire reason we had signed up for this trip. The 3rd site we lost was an excursion we had paid extra for. We had been on a bus to see the Black Forest and Colmar was close to where the ship was docked. It was sign posted. We had the buses, Colmar was on our itinerary and paid for but they just didn’t take us. No explanation why they didn’t. We did not get what we paid for. Viking should have cancelled the cruise. And we were not compensated. Then their useless “insurance” Trip Mate which we paid $600 pp for would not cover any of it either. All TripMate insurance covers is themselves. Don’t use Viking.com or TripMate Travel Insurance. Useless. Trip Mate travel insurance is changing its name to ReadyOn. Probably because of having a bad reputation. Stay away from these 2 companies

We traveled on Viking’s Portugal’s River of Gold cruise in August 2026, and the experience was nothing like what Viking advertises. A technical failure on the ship eliminated half of the river cruise portion of the itinerary. Instead of the 6-day river cruise we paid about $9,000 for, Viking substituted 3 days of bus travel and even added an unplanned hotel night in Salamanca. This wasn’t a minor inconvenience — it completely changed the nature of the trip. My wife has serious back problems following spinal surgery, and prolonged bus travel is physically painful for her. Viking’s last minute substitution caused significant discomfort and ruined the experience. Viking’s compensation has been unacceptable. They first offered $500 per person, then increased it to $1,500 per person, but only as a voucher valid for one year and usable only for future Viking travel. After this experience, we have no intention of traveling with Viking again, making the voucher effectively worthless. Viking failed to deliver the product we paid for and is refusing to provide meaningful compensation. Travelers should be aware of how Viking handles major service failures.

Are truma of our coach river cruise continues, they just don't seem too care that they put us all through such an awful time. The compensation they have offered is insulating. Obviously we are just a number to them as long as they can get away with it they will , obviously got very good lawyers.
