We've had one cruise with them, and it was a very comfortable experience , BUT I've been trying to contact them re an upcoming cruise and they refuse to respond to my emails. I got thru by phone once after 20 min in a queue , but they refused to deal with me as I's booked thru an agent. The agent has never got them to answer her calls : just endless "on hold".

Insult after injury
In 2019 I was on the Viking Idun from Bucharest to Budapest.
My cabin was fly infested, reeked of feces, and the carpet was soaked with raw sewage.
When I asked about changing cabins, I was told that no other cabins were available. Then I was told that a cabin used by the performers as a changing room could be available. Then I was told that an empty cabin existed but was not available because the passenger who chose that cabin had taken ill in Bucharest but might still join the tour. Being given three different stories, was, understandably, a bit confusing and did nothing to make me feel I was being told the truth.
I was told if I left the tour there would be no refunds for the cruise or airfare.
After enduring this for three and a half days, I was finally moved to another cabin.
Afterwards, after much back and forth, Viking offered me a $1200 voucher for a future cruise.
I could not use it before the one year expiration date due to the pandemic. Again, after many exhortations on my part to "do the right thing" Viking agreed to reinstate it. I booked a Viking cruise for Empires of the Mediterranean for August 20, 2021. Of course, this trip was cancelled, too.
Now, I wish to book another cruise but Viking will not honor the voucher. When I complained, I was offered $300.
Viking has offered me $300. That's less than $100 a day for what literally was a "crappy" experience.
Shame on you, Viking. After what I was subjected to, you've made the experience of remuneration like pulling teeth, and then you decide to insult me on top of it.

Another great holiday. Other travel companies take note!!
We have now finished our second Viking Cruise in Europe. I wish every travel company looked after you this way. Nothing is too much trouble and they look after you so well from picking you up at the airport to delivering you back with a member of staff guiding you through check in at a foreign airport. Food is great, Excursions are well planned and customers are looked after from start to finish. 10 out of ten every time.
We loved it so much were coming back for another next year!!

Legal action?
I, too, have fallen into the Viking River Cruise voucher / trip insurance trap. Trip planned for May of 2020. I won't go into the nitty gritty details, as they are very similar to what I've read here, but my question is...is anyone considering legal action?

Viking Refund
In January of this year I booked a river cruise for September 2023 with Viking. Earlier this week, a personal matter arose and I had to cancel. I sent my rep at Viking an email explaining the situation and asking for a refund under their published terms , full price less $100 per passenger , as stated in the terms. She replied that I would be receiving approximately $300 instead of the approximately $1,800 I expected.
My Viking rep explained that the trip protection insurance, $1,600, was paid for in full from the deposit and the refund , less a $300 cancellation fee, would be sent within 30 days. When I saw this, I emailed my Viking rep in an attempt to reschedule but she said the cruise had already been cancelled when she saw my email and management would not consider reinstating it.
No where in the 19 pages of ticketing documentation is it clearly spelled out that the insurance is treated as a separate item. The cancellation fee schedule makes no mention of charges or costs that are not eligible for refund upon request. The only invoice I received from Viking had all of the charges detailed , including insurance, which I feel should be refunded as well. My reasoning is that it is not clearly excluded from being refunded and is listed on the invoice as part of the total cost to the customer. As of today, we're 20 months from the planned cruise date so this isn't a matter of a last minute change.
Be extremely careful in dealing with these folks . They will wave the agreement in your face and are not flexible at all nor do they understand customer service. Just an oily bunch, they don't understand customer relationships, just transactions. They are stepping over dollars to pick up nickels.

Do NOT book w/ viking
Do NOT book w/ viking! They will lie to you. I booked a cruise in 2021 about 14 months out to sail in June 2022. I was give a "Risk -Free Guarantee". In mid February 2022, I called for a refund and was told that I could accept a voucher for a future cruise or a 20% penalty. That is theft!

Do not book with Viking Cruises ,they…
Do not book with Viking Cruises ,they turned my cancelled trip into vouchers with expiration dates that I never knew about. I also booked this trip years ago when there was not a vaccine mandate. They will not return my money of around $22000.00 They told me I did not need vaccinations for 2022 ,now I found out we do .We do not believe in the vaccinations and I told them that right out front. They have no intentions of giving my money back .Do I not have any rights? Anybody got any idea what do I do?

WARNING!!
WARNING!!! To all Viking passengers traveling to Spain (or other European locations), if you are tested COVID-19 positive you will be mandatory quarantined for 7 days. This means that you will be “jailed” in a room with no reading material, no television in English or anyone who cares about your well being. You will be fed what and when they decide you will get. They can feed dinner as late as 10:30 P.M. Not sound so bad? It’ll seem bad if you were served lunch at 1:00 P.M. and you have NOTHING else in your space to eat or occupy your time.
Viking intentionally doesn’t warn passengers of this pitfall. If you follow all their requests you still might be tested positive and be “jailed”. After I paid for the cruise i was then informed of their requirements. Within 1 day I asked for a refund but was denied. Remember, these requirements never warned of a positive test resulting in imprisonment.
I believe that Viking realizes if Americans know of this detail that they would never option to cruise with Viking. They deceived me and others.
Viking will tell you that you were informed of potential quarantine prison on page 7 of 19 in the standard terms & agreement fine print. However, this is not true. Page 7 states that you will be denied passage. It doesn’t warn about “prison”.
