I originally purchased a Vasco translator that didn’t work well in Vietnam. The customer service was superb and Vasco took back the translator and was willing to refund the product or sell me the Vasco Q1 upgrade for an additional cost. Given that I travel around the world so much, I chose the upgrade. The Vasco Q1 is absolutely amazing and worked so well around South America. I was there for a month and many people don’t speak English. Having this machine gave me so many wonderful memories of interacting with people I would have never had conversations with. Some of the following are part of the journey. 1) a subway ride next to a family with a 9 year old girl in Rio. I pulled out the Vasco Q1 and we started talking back and forth as she was interested in my wife and I and in America. The other passengers around us hovered around watching us having this discussion back and forth with this machine. 2) in Uraquay a street vendor was selling clothes. He and his whole family were working in this kiosk and his leg was all bandaged up. We had a long conversation about his leg and then we were bantering back and forth. We are both laughing with each other as we joked back and forth. By the time we left we were shaking hands with each other and we were friends even though neither of us spoke each other’s language. 3) at the airport in Chile we met an American who had a stroke a month ago. His wife was Colombian. Neither spoke the language of the other and they have been married for 8 years. They were using another machine brand that didn’t work well. We started talking to each other and then he tried this machine talking to his wife so they could see how great the Vasco Q1 worked and now they can communicate in real time. He was going to buy this when he arrived back in the states. 4) so many conversations that were quick that we needed for directions, stores, restaurants, etc. The Vasco Q1 was a life changer for me. Especially as we travel all the time. And it will help a lot for my international meetings on charity boards.

I purchased Q1/E1 combo. Q1 reads periods as "interogatory period" or something like that. Slows down conversation. CSR initially said hardware problem. Now havent heard back. Likely to return item. Q1/E1 appears to be programmed to shut down after 15-20 minutes. Hard to tell because on IOS it is difficult not to hit the speaker/on/off button unless the ipad is sitting face up on a table and nobody touches it. Not our real world environment.

I found the instructions too confusing I’ve tried three times to correctly use the device. Still not correct Do I press the bottom on the screen or the two on the side? Which of the bottoms on the dude are for the speaker which for the listener, responder? Direction say left and right bottoms what does that mean. Who do I contact if I wish to return it?

I love the translator, if I could suggest any changes I would suggest the addition of multiple My Voice options. I travel with my parents and sometimes we pass the translator around, it would be great to have a feature where they would be able to quick-select who's talking. Another suggestion would be eventually adding Nahuatl and My Voice to traditional Chinese. Thank you!
