The rewards program is completely useless since they changed to the "U" card. There is no way to spend them. I have tried several merchants and they cannot read the card. I have called customer service about this several times and they say the merchant hasn't been trained to use this card or I am using it at a merchant not on their "list". They totally messed up a program that once worked easily.

About 6 years ago I was illegally put on Medicaid by MDHHS of Michigan. They signed me up for United Healthcare without my knowledge or permission. When I called them to cancel my membership I was told that I had no legal standing to cancel my membership. Today I received information from United Healthcare about Medicare. I called to have my name removed from their system. All 3 times I was transferred to someone in the Philippines. Why is this company hiring people from one of the four worst countries for fraud? Hire people who live in the United States!

They’ll happily take your money and provide you bogus phone numbers to inactive doctors, randomly change your PCP without your consent so that your referrals get rejected, and then they’ll flat out refuse to help you resolve the issue beyond just sending you to talking heads that can’t solve the problem and blame it on the providers. THEIR APP IS NOT UP TO DATE, so as much as they want to tell you the easiest way to get care is to find a provider through their list on their website/app, you’ll just waste hours of your life because none of the doctors listed are current or taking patients. It’s absolutely insane. But don’t worry, they’ll still bill you for coverage even though they cover NOTHING.

I found an In-Network mental health provider through the UnitedHealthcare website. I began sessions, confirming that the cost was fully covered by insurance. After several months of coverage, UnitedHealthcare stopped covering the cost, with no notification to me or my provider whatsoever. There were no changes in the service provided and I was suddenly expected to bear the cost of many sessions out of pocket. Would not recommend and would avoid future employers that even use United.

I was forced to switch to the generic form of a drug due to cost issues, even though it was not available at the desired strength. Then it was recalled because of contamination issues. I submitted an expedited review of the drug to go back to the non-generic form of the drug until the generic form was once again available. At the moment, I have none of the very necessary drug. I waited three days for their expedited review, to learn that it was once again denied. When I asked what to use in place of the non-available generic or the more expensive brand name, I was told “I’m sorry, I cannot tell you that.” I had to file a formal complaint to Medicare for United to call me back with any note of concern. I’m sure that concern was far more about getting in trouble with Medicare than my personal welfare. When open enrollment begins, I will drop this plan like the hot load of feces that it is, and never look back. You would be very well served to choose s slightly more expensive plan that is more focused on patient health than CEO wealth. This one is POOR.

Whenever I call I'm redirected to a voice mail for someone who never answers their calls or returns voice mail messages. When I email or write in via their website, I'm told I have to call. When I click ask a question on one of my claims and write out my questions, I get an auto response telling me to call. As I browse the website I get a chat pop up offering to help me, I ask my question there. I get an autoresponse telling me I need to call and that I wont be supported by chat, email or otherwise. Why do I pay this much for insurance again?

Compared to other health insurance companies, United Healthcare is the least likely to pay claims of any health insurance company on the market. United has real cheap premiums, cheap co-payments, etc, but not a good company if you have major medical problems.

January 2022: UHC assures me that my shoulder MRI is COMPLETELY covered and I won't have to pay a dime. So I go through with it. March 2022: I receive a bill for the MRI. I call the hospital. They send the bill back to UHC. April 2022: I receive another bill for the MRI. So I call UHC. They say that in March 2022, MONTHS AFTER my MRI, they changed a rule and now my MRI isn't covered (even though it already happened.) Next, I send in an appeal, explaining the details. They say f*** you, we're making you pay it. Then, I apply for financial assistance to pay the bill. They say f*** you, we're making you pay it. March 2023: I set up a payment plan for this bill I'm being wrongfully charged because I don't have the time or the resources to keep fighting them on it, and they know it. I can't afford for it to go to collections and drag down my credit score. I'm fully stuck in between UHC behaving in a predatory manner, and the hospital trying to get paid. And now I am forced to pay this bill I was promised wouldn't even exist, even though I make peanuts compared to both institutions. There are things that I like about UHC. But this experience has been a nightmare for me and other people need to know that this stuff happens. If I have to pay this bill, I'm at least going to make sure others know what is going on so they can make a better choice for their health insurance.
