Fiends...customer service is third world English illiterate sweat shops. Automated systems are laughably ill designed , dysfunctional and useless....must have congress on their payroll to say nothing of the criminals at AARP who take UHC's blood money for an endorsement to unsuspecting seniors who make the mistake of thinking AARP isn't bought and paid for.

Double charging for overlapping plans and blaming the client
I had a United Healthcare plan through the marketplace for approximately 6 months before I got married, after which I got on a family plan also with United Healthcare.
First of all, United Healthcare has separate departments for each of their categories of plans so that they can avoid responsibility for anything, or so it seems. They are quick to shift responsibility to one department, or to marketplace, or on to the client when it comes to obvious flaws in their business model.
When I got on the family plan I decided to use the app to try to cancel the individual plan. Good luck with that. They don’t allow for that on the app of course. You have to call marketplace I found out after 3 months of being charged for both plans.
Anyway, I was able to cancel the direct payment, thinking that surely they would catch on to the obvious fact that they were providing me with redundant coverage. Surely, an international conglomerate with 50 million clients would have a safety net in their model for not unscrupulously taking advantage of the same people that they purport to help, many of whom are afflicted with desease including mental illnesses.
Ironically, they call that 3-month double-charging period a “grace” period. I don’t see the grace in double-charging a client for overlapping plans and having multiple ways to avoid any responsibility by, as I said, shifting the responsibility to all other entities including the client.
When I realized that they had done this to me, I figured I would just call them and they would do what any reasonable business would do. They would simply remove the balance from my account, right?
Well, I spent a total of 6 hours during a 2-day period which involved conversations with a number of representatives, 2 supervisors, a call-back from billing, several arguments, a supervisor who placed all the blame on me, and the feeling of wanting to throw myself out of a window taking with me all the reps I had spoken with. Even the surveys they had prompted me to take at the end of the conversations mysteriously didn’t happen. I wonder why?
Customer service to them apparently means leaving the client feeling more anxious and desperate than before they called. They are not trained to deescalate a situation it seems. All of them seemed to antagonize me to the point of driving me to yell.
If a “grace” period turns out to not be graceful to a client, why should that client have to pay for it? Why should I pay for grace that is intended for someone else?
Imagine if I book a burial for my mom who is near death, at the same time my brother books a cremation for her at the same funeral home? When my mom dies will they not refund for the cremation if we ultimately go with the burial, given of course that no other services were interfered with? Will they say that I need to be charged for the cremation, even though the service was not provided?
I see it as a no-brainer.
$100 that is frivolously charged to one client is nothing. But how many of their 50 million clients are being conned? They chalk it up to client irresponsibility when it would be quite simple to work an alert into their automation to catch these apparent faults, instead of shifting the blame on to the client.
I guess that looking for ethical, caring behavior from a corporate entity is just asking too much.

Worst insurance company on the market
Worst insurance company on the market. Have them through work. These people don’t cover hardly anything even with a 600 dollar a month payment.
RIP OFF!!

United… insurance is terrible
I ABSOLUTELY HATE HATE HATE United Healthcare!!! I was supposed to have SI joint fusion on the 29th and just found out that they completely denied it! Pat had taken over a week off to care for me so he had to rescind it. Dr Gogela is having a peer to peer on the 22nd to figure out exactly what they want to approve it. I’ve been in pain for over 2 1/2 years now. They are all about making money and don’t care about the insured at all!

Expect to get dumped after you are established...
I have had United Healthcare community plan for many years. Let me start out by saying I have complex medical issues and have been established with the same doctors for nearly 17 years. United Healthcare dumped the Nueces County UHC community plan patients for whatever reason, I'm certain the reason has a $$ in front of it. The replacement medical plans do not cover any of my doctors and only some of my medication. The stress, fear and anxiety has left me suicidal on many occasions. I have a pain pump because of injuries from an auto accident and Superior insurance does not
cover a pain pump so I have to be weaned down and put back on oral meds and patches, ultimately leaving me a zombie. I am desperately trying to find a home in Bexar County so I can switch back to UHC but I don't know how I am going to move when I can barely walk to the mailbox and back! Allowing healthcare
companies to unceremoniously dump patients should be illegal!

Didn't pay for medically necessary PT
I had an ACL repair surgery, which requires months of physical therapy in order to return to normal function. After 20 sessions of physical therapy (10 weeks), they told me they would no longer cover any more. I tried to collect an appeal through my surgeon, with my surgeon confirming that continued physical therapy was medically necessary, but they still refused my appeal for more physical therapy, saying I'd have to pay out of pocket. Since stopping physical therapy, I've partially torn my hamstring taking off my shoe, because it is too weak. My mobility is decreasing because UnitedHealthcare won't cover my medical needs. This seems illegal what they're doing.

I purchased a 'virtual first' health…
I purchased a 'virtual first' health plan from this company via the federal exchange. The headline feature of the plan was '0$ Virtual Visits'. I used the app designated by UHC for 'virtual visits' on one occasion. The claim was denied with the rationale that the provider was 'out of network'. The app offered no choice of provider nor network. Additionally, the claims appeal process was obviously designed to be as painful as possible.
Doing business with this company is very painful. Their scam-like products do not deliver the value they promise. If you want to protest, they deliberately force you to waste your valuable time. Save your money!
