Hi Scott, Thank you for reaching out to Trailer Valet. We’re sorry that you were disappointed with your unit. It sounds like you have the XL unit for your boat trailer. We usually recommend the 5X unit instead, for many boat trailer owners for multiple reasons. But if you want to make the XL work for you, we recommend trying the mounting bracket.
