Took forever to get a shuttle from the airport. Tried to put me in a vehicle I didn’t reserve and claim it was comparable (a minivan and a Yukon SUV are not comparable). They offered me their fuel top off price and said I would only be charged for what they put in. When I returned it full they said their was no top off option and I had to complain to get a refund. The guy goes, “Yea for future reference that’s not how anyone does it.” I told him I know which is why I clarified it with the other representative 3 times. Bottom line, she/they lied and were trying to rip us off. I hate scammy companies and won’t use them again!

I rented a car with my father in RDU
I rented a car with my father in RDU at Thrifty Car Rental, just before memorial weekend and the clerk added insurance we did not ask for and got us to sign the contract before we could view it by saying we were signing for authorization for a second driver. He then showed us the contract and said the car company would remove it after we returned which was a lie. I am looking at a legal recourse and I don't care if I have to press charges on the clerk. I am very upset that this was done to us and this predatorial practice needs to be stopped

There was over a 2 hour wait in line to get a vehicle. Then when we finally got to the counter we were asked to upgrade, which would have been ok, except it was for the same class car we originally paid for.

Thrifty Car Rental sh** show
RUN AWAY!!! Do NOT rent through Thrifty. Do not pre-pay. Do not believe the “confirmation” you are given, even if you call to double check that you’ll have a car upon arrival. You won’t. Like many rental car companies, they sold off a large number of their cars during the pandemic and cannot accommodate the bookings they have. I booked a car for a week in Phoenix (destination TUCSON 110 miles away). Arrived about 15 minutes early to pick up my 10pm car. There were, I kid you not, at least 80-100 ppl in line ahead of me (and quickly another 15-20 behind me). Waited about 30 minutes before three ppl from Thrifty came out to say that about 20 ppl ahead of me, they’d have no more cars. They offered the MOST insincere “We’re sorry.” I’ve ever heard and nothing more. No offer to rebook through other car companies, no hotel voucher, no discount for hotel voucher,no meal voucher,AND...NO guarantee of a car the next day. No compensation whatsoever. Just “We’re sorry.” Note: I called the day before my trip to confirm I’d have a car waiting (I heard rumors). The woman said “you are confirmed a car. It will be there.” What a bald faced lie!” If all the people in line ahead of me ALSO had reservations/confirmations... she would have had to know (just by looking at their reservations) that there was a likely chance at that hour I’d have no car!
Horrid experience. Never again, Thrifty. Turned the whole thing over to Amex to dispute payment.

A nightmare
I wish I could rate my experience Negative Trillion stars because Thrifty Car Rental gave me the worst car rental experience ever!!! I traveled from Michigan to Houston Intercontinental Airport March 31, 2021 for spring break with my daughter. Our plane landed late, 9:47p because of a computer problem with the landing gear. Our plane was supposed to arrive at 9:33p When I ordered the car in January, I stated I would pick the car up at 10p. I even put down my flight number. I paid $370.60 and would pay the balance of $178.38 when I picked up the car. When we arrived at the car rental building a few minutes after 10p, Thrifty/Dollar Rental Car was closed and no one was around except the security guard and another rental car company. My daughter and I started making phone calls and texting Wisecars support, apparently they are a 3rd party that Rentalcars. com uses to handle my booking. I texted Wisecars and told them we could not get our rental car because Thrifty/Dollar was closed, they text me back saying "Thrifty/Dollar were closed". I was so glad that Wisecar support guy told me that because I couldn't figure that out by looking at Thrifty/Dollar counter, I say sarcastically. I received a few more text from Wisecars with the same message. My daughter called Dollar support and the guy who answered her phone call was very rude and basically told her that it was our fault that we didn't get there before 10p.
In our travel plans, my daughter and I had decided to drive to Waco Texas after picking up the car. It was about a 4 hour drive but if we did that night we would have a whole day in Waco to visit Magnolia Farm Silos etc. Since we could not get our car that night, we decided it was less money to spend if we just stayed overnight in the car rental building. We would have to find a hotel and find a way to get there and be back to the car rental building at 7a. We were not the only people in this predicament. My daughter "slept" on two chairs and I "slept" on 2 suitcases. When 7a came around and it was our turn at the counter, the Thrifty/Dollar representative could not find our original contract so in order to get a rental car we had to rent another one. There was nothing she could or would do, like give us a free upgrade. At that point, we had no choice but to rent a new car for a higher price of $678.13, plus a deposit of $500.
I did not get a refund of my original contract of $370.60 because the original contract stated that if I picked up the car after 10p, I would forfeit all my money and the contract would be terminated.
I decided that I did not want to deal with this problem during my spring break trip so when I got home on April 11th, I would call Wisecars. When I did call all the reps were busy and I called Thrifty/Dollar, and same thing. Today, I am going to get this taken care of through Rentalcars.com from which I found the price that was acceptable to me for a 10 day spring break trip in Texas.

Car rental scam
Scam rental business. In line before scheduled pickup time at MCO airport and had to wait 2 hours before getting the car we had paid for months beforehand. The only reason you go to the counter is so they can sell you extra insurance and add-on services. They lie at the counter and it takes several minutes before they are convinced you just want what was already paid for. All options had been selected online beforehand, so there should be no need for going to the counter. Should have just emailed the receipt so you can grab the paid product and leave at the pickup time. No discount was given for a 2 hour late rental. Price was expensive and car was not cleaned beforehand.

Absolutely terrible experience
Absolutely terrible experience. We picked up our car from Greensboro airport. I had originally reserved a Toyota Corolla, but I splurged and upgraded to a Camaro SS. Everything was going fine with my experience until the last night. We got a flat at 8:45pm. The car does not come with a spare. We then call roadside assistance, while stuck on the side of the road in a dark and desolate area in Virginia. Calling constantly for help, and being put on hold for 1/2 hr, then an hour, we were told a supervisor would call us back in 15 minutes, that didn’t happen. I called again and was told a supervisor would call in 30-45 minutes. I called again, desperate for help, and was put on hold to WAIT for a supervisor but was transferred to roadside assistance, again waiting for over an hour on the phone. We realized there was no supervisor, we were just being blown off. Finally we get through to a woman named Twanda from Oklahoma and she looked for a rental car swap, but everything was closed by the time we spoke to her which was almost 11pm. She called local towing services but they would not drive us back to our place of stay. We had a flight the next morning and had to leave by 8:30. No cab service was available due to our remote location. Finally after another hour went by she calls us back telling us she found a tow service in NC that would take the car and drive us back so we didn’t have to sleep in the parking lot. She also told us that our case would be transferred over to the new person coming on shift. Italia was her name. Italia was responsible for locating us a car at 7am the next morning when Thrifty opened so we could get to the airport on time. At about 1:30am the tow truck arrived and we were able to get into bed at 3:00 in the morning, waking up our homeowners in the process. After 4 hours of sleep and packing our luggage we were waiting for that 7am call for a replacement rental car. 45 minutes go by and nothing. We call and call to no avail only to be told I would be transferred to the correct person to help. It was roadside assistance again and was put on hold for 20 minutes. I just hung up at that point. At 8:15 am we get a knock on the door and it’s the owner of the cabin rental. She says “this was a bad experience for you huh?” And offers us the 1-1/2 hour ride to the airport. We accept and pay her $50 for the ride. At the thrifty counter we explain our situation because we were supposed to drop the Camaro at the airport location. He states he doesn’t know where the car is but sees that it’s been towed. He says he can’t close it out until he locates the car. He takes our phone # and explains that he will call us when he finds out after “digging deeper” into it. Again NO Call... the absolute worst customer service(with the exception of Twanda). How do offer emergency roadside assistance when it takes 5 hours to help someone who is stranded in the dark? And to have your representatives trained to say I could get a supervisor to call me when there is no supervisor is just appalling. We still don’t know if the case has been closed. Our case# was 210050497.

Almost 2 hour wait at RSW airport got…
Almost 2 hour wait at RSW airport got an adequate size substitute vehicle but smelled like deodorizer over cigarette smoke. Biggest clue beyond the smell was the big cigarette burn on the middle front arm rest. Folks were nice but I’m sure just overwhelmed by the spring crowd in Florida.
