Impossible to cancel. I am well before the renewal date and yet it's impossible to cancel. I'm going to have to cancel my credit card to avoid being charged for something I don't want. When trying to cancel online it just posts an error message to prevent you from actually cancelling. Stay away from NYT and The Athletic

I was scammed the same way. I have no recollection after accepting the one dollar offer that I would be charged 5999 for renewal. They obviously have no respect for their clients. This is a flat out scam. No notification of your subscription coming due. I absolutely abhor businesses that treat their customer like this. They can go to hell.I don’t understand how these people sleep at night.

My subscription is via Apple on my iPhone. It renewed on the 9th June and when I was reading articles today, it all of sudden ceased to recognize me and the screen got blocked with a banner saying subscription required. Tried to (1) re-login, (2) reinstall the app all failed. The customer chatbot is useless and they ask you to reach out to The NY Times. You chat with them and they claim that you’ve unsubscribed and even though you show that you haven’t, they will only tell you it’s a third party subscription so go speak with Apple as it’s their problem. Absolutely useless and unhelpful. Spoke to Apple who confirmed that that the subscription is live and paid for on the 9th June. The Athletic have just lost me as I’ve submitted a full refund request.

Subscription scam. No reminder that your subscription is ending then they charge you £59.99. My previous subscription was for £1 a month! Then bill me for 12 months for a total of £59.99. Scam

Same experience as several other reviews. No reminder of subscription renewal despite it being on an annual basis. Charged 63 GBP, and not refunded when I complained. Pretty annoying. Will not be using again.

Started emailing me and ignoring my requests to stop. Having read other reviews here I’m now going to double check that I’m not being charged

Auto-renewing a $19.99 subscription with no notice for $71.99 and then telling customers there is no refund is not how you run a reputable business.
