I am writing this to warn other City of New York employees and Union members using the standard NYCE PPO / UnitedHealthcare plan. Do not use Talkspace if you rely on insurance for your mental health care. My coverage is fully active and confirmed by my insurer, yet Talkspace’s system suddenly flagged my account as "Expired" and cut off access to my therapist. When I contacted support to fix this glitch, they sent me copy-pasted instructions telling me to select provider options that do not even exist. They are effectively holding my therapy hostage, blocking my appointments, and trying to force me to pay over $100 a week out-of-pocket for a service that is fully covered. This is not just a technical error; it is a disruption of medical care with zero accountability. If you need consistent therapy, go somewhere that actually verifies insurance correctly instead of gaslighting you when their system breaks.

The customer service is non-existent. An issue on their end prevented me from scheduling another appointment. I've had a ticket open for 20+ days, the live chat will perpetually show "wait 2-3 minutes" but no one will show up, and they don't have a contact phone #

The doctors there are good. But stay away! This is a terribly dishonest online platform. They lure you in with promises of $0 co-payment on your insurance, conduct therapy sessions with you for 2-3 months, incorrectly file claims with the insurance company, receive denials of reimbursement. There is absolutely no customer support. You send messages into the void, and they respond with deceptive promises that they will look into the matter. And then, one fine day, they withdraw all the money from your card down to the last penny. Read other reviews; people are saying the same thing. Or be prepared to pay for everything in cash, $500 or more before you realize you've been scammed.

If I could give them zero stars I would. But let me preface by saying that I love the therapists. I had a wonderful therapist and when I had to switch over my insurance in January I thought it would be a fairly straightforward process. Unfortunately I was very wrong. I haven't had therapy in 6 weeks because of this whole insurance debacle. I reached out to my insurance company thinking that maybe they had taken Talkspace off their benefits because before this new year, my copay for unlimited messages and online meetings was $30. I reached out to my insurance company and they informed me that my copay for online meetings and messaging should still be $30. But now Talkspace has this plan menu that you have to select from which is absolutely ridiculous because the minimum copay for these "plans" is $89 PER MONTH out of pocket. As a broke college student this is completely inaffordable for me. So I reached out to Talkspace. I called them two times a day for a week. Everytime I called them I would be on hold for 12 minutes and then I would get an automated voice say "I'm sorry, there are no assistants available" and then THE CALL WOULD END. So I tried submitting a ticket or "request" as they call it. I submitted my first ticket 20 days ago, my second was submitted a week ago, and my newest one I sent 45 minutes ago. I saw that there was a "solved" mark next to my first request. Apparently they think they solved the problem in my first request today. BUT I clicked on the "solved" request and all I saw was the paragraph I wrote them 20 days ago. No link to more help or a comment of feedback telling me what they had solved. I also emailed them today and I got an automated email response from them saying that their email is no longer monitored. Absolutely awful. So now I have to find a new talk therpay company which sucks because I really love my therapist here. But this service is completely and utterly unacceptable.

My first session was a joke and i felt worse when it was done, completely dismissed. it was scheduled for an hour, it lasted 20 minutes. She dove right into medications and had me on a new prescription in the first 15 minutes. Which by the way, my pharmacy never got. When she started ending the session, I asked "when will we talk about my anxiety, and how to process it" she replied "have you tried breathing"!!!and that's where it ended. Not to mention the loud environment. Either somebody was walking back and forth through her room, or there was construction happening at her door. Safe to assume my insurance was billed for the scheduled hour, and i was charged the co-pay for NOTHING!!!

I’m sharing this to help others avoid an unpleasant surprise. During sign-up, Talkspace displayed that my insurance was accepted and showed $0 copay / $15 estimated cost after indicating they had “checked” my insurance. Based on that information, I proceeded with the appointment. After the session was completed, Talkspace withdrew $138+ from my bank account with no advance notice. I was only informed after the money had already been taken. I fully understand how insurance deductibles work — that is not the issue. The issue is how pricing is presented during onboarding. The platform prominently shows a low estimated cost and “good news” messaging about insurance coverage, while the disclaimer that the amount may change appears later and in much less prominent text. Afterward, support stated that the initial amount was not a full insurance check — despite the wording strongly suggesting otherwise. I raised this concern repeatedly, requested escalation, and asked for a refund due to the lack of notice. The refund was denied. If you use this service, do not rely on the initial quoted amount. Be prepared that the final charge may be significantly higher and may be withdrawn without prior billing notification. I’m disappointed, because transparent pricing matters — especially in healthcare. ****POST AFTER RESPONSE*** Thank you for your response however I have noticed numerous folks complain about this issue since 2024. So this needs to be resolved.

Not happy. I’ve been with them for almost 1 year. It is impossible to speak to someone directly regarding medical records!!!! I asked for an expedited request as I am currently out on disability with no pay for a month. It is taking them almost two weeks to send me my records!!! I sent in the completed form and silence for the past two weeks!!!
