Talkspace used to be a great company to work for. This has changed since Monika joined leadership. I encourage all onboarding therapists to ask questions about compensation, company stability, billable hours, and how management works to meet providers’ needs. There are sporadic weekly changes, limited support, and a general feeling that you could lose your job at any time or be reduced to a .75 employee on any given day due to the amount of fluctuation the company is experiencing.

Unprofessional
Multiple occasions of unprofessional conduct by therapists combined with a difficult to use app and interface make this not worth the time or money.

Anxiety
Was scheduled for a much needed telehealth therapy session at 10:45. I was denied my appointment because I hadn’t updated my Talkspace account. Heck, I just signed up for it a few weeks ago and I received no notice about this until 10:38. It was too late. I hope to God I don’t get charged a cancellation fee.
I thought I was getting help for anxiety.
Instead, I have more anxiety.😟

Harmful to Vulnerable Users
Talkspace is incredibly user-unfriendly, especially for a mental health service. The site is glitchy, particularly when getting assigned a provider. When my insurance changed, rather than warn me that my current provider was no longer covered, the app had me continue filling out information, then abruptly ended my communication with my current provider and randomly assigned me a new one. This is a terrible way to conduct a business focusing on people in vulnerable states and I have been frustrated since I started using the site years ago.

The counselor was very biased
The counselor was very biased, making sure to invalidate me in sessions with my wife and clearly chose to side with her. I was vilified and none of my needs/concerns were met professionally or addressed.
Now we are divorcing and I contribute it to poor counseling skills

Unprofessional support team, poor service quality
Their service is a joke. Your therapeutic journey is dictated at every step by a brainless AI that auto-selects therapists at random without any regard for the specific help you're looking for. When I tried to override the system and find my own therapist manually, I was told to contact customer support so they could override the braindead AI, because the system is designed to bar users from making any manual selection without Talkspace staff approval. My support ticket went unanswered for a week, and when support finally did respond, they were incredibly rude and openly hostile. If there was a rating below 1 star, that's what these scumbags would get.

Disappointed
I WAS so excited to use this service
I was so excited to use this service, especially after listening to ads for them on my favorite podcast for years. I had never been able to afford the service previously, but it became available to me through my employer. My first therapist was ok - she was responsive, but her answer to everything I brought up was to send me a PDF, not to have a conversation. After a few weeks, I decided to try another therapist. After a few messages back and forth, I became really excited about the second provider....until he ghosted me for 2 weeks, wasting 2 sessions that TalkSpace customer service was VERY rude when I tried to request those 2 sessions credited back to me as a result. After being ghosted (despite my messaging the provider trying to check in), and then treated horribly by customer service, I was going to just give up, but figured I'd try one last, third time to find a provider. I got paired up with another provider, one that I was also really excited about potentially working with - we had one video session, spent almost entirely listening to the provider make comments about my appearance (in a good way, but also....this is a therapy session, can we maybe not?), and then also ghosted me after our first session. For how much TalkSpace charges, and how long I was excited about getting to use this service, I am beyond disappointed and went from recommending the idea behind this service to friends and family, to letting everyone know "nevermind...I've been trying to use their service, unsuccessfully for several months now, don't waste your time." Thankfully, I was seeking therapy for upkeep and maintenance on my mental health, but for anyone trying to seek help for immediate mental health concerns - seek elsewhere. Talkspace isn't it.
