Loyal customer for many years. 2 HP Pavilions and 2 HP printers. Enrolled in HP Instant Ink. Downloaded hp.com and spyware was installed with it. Contacted HP tech support to remove the spyware. Wanted me to purchase a new warranty because my computer is "too old". Why should I? It is HP's fault not mine. No consideration for loyalty to the brand.

I bought a HP Pavilion 27 inch Desktop from Currys less than 2 years ago and pay a monthly subscription for HP Support. The machine recently developed an annoying pop up saying it was infected by a virus. To resolve this I tried System Restore. After some time a blue screen headed Bit Locker appeared asking for a recovery code. I then wasted considerable time with HP Support. Initally they wanted the serial number of the PC which was nowhere to be seen, They suggested I call Currys to get this. After wasting further time, Currys did not have the number. I eventually found the code on the original box, (if this is so important why is there not a prominet sticker on the front of the PC?). On recontacting HP Support they then asked me to contact MIcrosoft for the recovery code. I tried calling Microsoft but could only find a useless automated service. On using another PC I managed to enter my MS account and found the recovery code, (48 numbers!!). On entering this my PC then indicated a critical error. A third call to HP Support only produced advice to recontact Microsoft. This is the most abysmal customer service I have ever encountered. These large computer companies need to get their act together and provide real help for customers. Hiding behind security or data protection is no excuse for the appalling way customers are treated.

HP is intentionally forcing AI onto its customers, and it’s painful especially for someone neurodivergent like myself. When I first had a problem with my HP DeskJet 4200e series printer, I called HP Support, and was caught in an AI Loophole, so I said “speak to an agent”, they transferred me to a human agent, and we solved my problem quickly. This time, however, was different. I purchased a 2800e printer secondhand hoping I can speed my production as a I run a small business selling artwork. It took me hours to factory reset and make it my own. The printer came with a defective cartridge which malfunctioned the printer whenever it went in. Also during this time, HP intentionally made it so that you can’t talk to a human, and when I said “speak to an agent” again, their AI support agent said “I can transfer you to an agent, but I can solve your problem quicker!” Yeah right… 😒 It did slightly help in the beginning (slightly is an understatement), but then constantly repeated the same thing over and over again, so I hung up. It even tried to end to our call. I enrolled the printer in Instant Ink (I love the program because it automatically detects when you run out of ink, so you get new ones shipped to your home and you don’t have to spend a fortune on new cartridges) and I thought things were going smoothly now that the printer is officially mine, that was until I was delivered the wrong size cartridges. I attempted to find an email address so that I could at least speak to a human. HP no longer gives you an email address to contact support and instead pushes its AI assistant to “help” you instead. I put quotes because the AI assistant puts you through a loophole, doesn’t understand your problem, and expects you to answer from a bunch of other answers while shutting you out in the end. When you want to contact HP’s support team, the AI assistant sends out an error message. Go figure. As much as I love my HP printers and the Instant Ink subscription because of their convenience and affordability, their support team is very questionable, however, their printers work amazingly but it doesn’t excuse the fact that the company is pushing AI for their support and creating a frustrating process for customers like myself.

Dear HP Customer Service, I am writing to formally request the immediate cancellation of my HP printing subscription and confirmation that I will not be charged again. I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience. I purchased an HP printer for use in my home, and I find it unacceptable to be expected to continue paying a subscription in order to fully use a printer I already own. I purchase my own printer, paper, and supplies, and I should not have to keep paying HP simply to print at home. This subscription model has made the printer more of a burden than a convenience. At this point, the printer is essentially useless to me, and I have decided to replace it with a Canon printer that does not require this type of ongoing subscription. Please cancel my subscription immediately, stop all future charges, and provide written confirmation once the cancellation has been completed. If any additional charges are scheduled for my account, please ensure they are stopped. Unfortunately, this experience has changed my opinion of HP. I no longer plan to purchase HP printers or other HP products. I hope HP listens to customers who simply want to purchase a printer and use it in their own homes without feeling locked into an ongoing subscription. Please treat this as my formal cancellation request and confirm that no additional charges will be made. Sincerely, Cynthia Thornton

HP have continually taken a subscription from my bank account despite having cancelled this subscription over a year ago. During this time there have never once sent me a printer cartridge. This I believe is called theft and I have reported HP to my bank for fraud and disputes. Therefore I suggest you never take out a subscription from your account. They have never replied regarding their rogue business practices for extraction of monies and their refusal to cancel unwanted subscription accounts.
