Pushing AI support onto customers
HP is intentionally forcing AI onto its customers, and it’s painful especially for someone neurodivergent like myself. When I first had a problem with my HP DeskJet 4200e series printer, I called HP Support, and was caught in an AI Loophole, so I said “speak to an agent”, they transferred me to a human agent, and we solved my problem quickly. This time, however, was different. I purchased a 2800e printer secondhand hoping I can speed my production as a I run a small business selling artwork. It took me hours to factory reset and make it my own. The printer came with a defective cartridge which malfunctioned the printer whenever it went in. Also during this time, HP intentionally made it so that you can’t talk to a human, and when I said “speak to an agent” again, their AI support agent said “I can transfer you to an agent, but I can solve your problem quicker!” Yeah right… 😒 It did slightly help in the beginning (slightly is an understatement), but then constantly repeated the same thing over and over again, so I hung up. It even tried to end to our call. I enrolled the printer in Instant Ink (I love the program because it automatically detects when you run out of ink, so you get new ones shipped to your home and you don’t have to spend a fortune on new cartridges) and I thought things were going smoothly now that the printer is officially mine, that was until I was delivered the wrong size cartridges. I attempted to find an email address so that I could at least speak to a human. HP no longer gives you an email address to contact support and instead pushes its AI assistant to “help” you instead. I put quotes because the AI assistant puts you through a loophole, doesn’t understand your problem, and expects you to answer from a bunch of other answers while shutting you out in the end. When you want to contact HP’s support team, the AI assistant sends out an error message. Go figure. As much as I love my HP printers and the Instant Ink subscription because of their convenience and affordability, their support team is very questionable, however, their printers work amazingly but it doesn’t excuse the fact that the company is pushing AI for their support and creating a frustrating process for customers like myself.
