They care more for their reputation, than you do for your own Mom
Sales Rep: McMahon/Miles I just want to say thank you to anyone taking the time to read this. I have written this review ten times, and I do not suffer from OCD. The reason why it has been re-written so many is because my scenario is such a rich one and it deserves some actual thought. My purchase was around 5k. For me and my sister (purchase made together), this is a fairly large chunk of money to lay out on a hobby/habit/lifestyle/pastime. It really is. If you are on the fence with these guys and still have a lot of questions, please read on...I wish I knew what I knew going into this and I can't wait to share. 1) SuperCloset can handle intense pressure: First of all, though communication has been limited (time of writing 10/29), my rep has continued to respond to my questions and needs even while evacuating his family from wildfires in Santa Rosa County. The level of communication is important to note because consumer experiences are hardly ever "rich" anymore, meaning that after the "honeymoon" sale period, a lot of times the consumer can end up feeling abandoned if something goes wrong. Sometimes, especially with a large cross-country purchase like this one from a company that is new to us, it may feel like a major leap of faith or craziness to even decide to pull the trigger on something like this. If you have any of these feelings, please read on for some fine points about the proven actions of this wonderful company: *Regarding Honarable Business Practices: Anything that could have gone wrong with respect to mine and my sister's order--DID GO WRONG. I want to specify that very little of what I had to deal can be blamed on SuperCloset. The very annoying, unbelievably frustrating circumstances surrounding my two-plus-month debacle are, for the most part, irrelevant. The important thing is the way that this company responded under pressure. Here is a quick list of examples: 1) Initially, I was concerned that something would happen to delay shipment. McMahon's responses to my inquiries were a little cocky, to be honest. He was just so sure that holiday weekend, terrain, build-time, etc would not hinder their promised date. Unfortunately, MM's or my own hopes and dreams did not matter. The package ended up being lost for a bout 3 weeks. They finally found them somewhere in NJ. Needless to say, I lost my mind on several occasions. I literally have no clue how this company didn't just write me off and tell me to go you-know-what-myself. 2) I do not normally try to get stuff for free, and in fact, I'm so used to getting screwed that even if I am entitled, I usually just let it go so it isn't awkward. With regard to our issue, it was a little back and forth for a while, but in the end, the company came through, and made sure that the third-party shipper had to pay, which meant that I got some money back for my headaches. There couldn't be a more important factor with regard to ease-of-mind when making a purchase like this. Not to say that they will be giving you a bunch of stuff/shipping for free--but if you are entitled to it for whatever reason, trust me--they will definitely have your back. Period. So there's that. *Regarding Transparency and Salesmanship This issue is a little more complex to decipher. I would recommend that if you are making a purchase with SuperCloset that is above 1k, that you should literally "grill" the sales person with questions. You need to ask so many questions that they have to put you on hold to get an answer. The reason I say this is because there were things that I wish I knew, or that I had explained better. Let me clarify, that this isn't to say that McMahon was lacking in salesmanship or transparency. My point is that sometimes, when someone is really good at something and knows a lot it and is passionate about it, sometimes the particulars of a thing can get overlooked. This is what happened with MM and I. Again, philosophically, it is hard to tell if MM should have been more thorough in some of his explanations, or if I was too overwhelmed with info to ask enough of the right questions. Before I close this peaceful review (I am so freaking amped to start growing!), I want to point out some of these weak points of the sale that could have been explained better, or that I could have asked more questions about: A) How delivery works for you/me locally. It is helpful to know that SuperCloset outsources its customer service/money issues with regard to shipping to a 4th party "E-shipping." This became very relevant once SuperCloset agreed to pay for specialized shipping. It was relevant because all transactions are finalized through this conduit "E-shipping," meaning that Estes would have nothing to do with approving such a thing. So you can imagine what happens when MM says he will pay, Estes says they don't know what I'm talking about, and then E-shipping says they have no record of the transaction. Once I found out who the middle man was (E-ship), I was able to get specific dates and times when emails were sent to E-shipping so that I could go armed and ready to get what I needed out of E-shipping people. In the end, a dude named "Clint" saved the day. He was almost as good as MM. Solution: put a link to my review (lol). No, seriously, though, there should be a place maybe on website with bullet points and contacts for if issues like this arise, maybe a quick paragraph explaining the process and some tips for navigating and some "heads-up" type of things. It cost me hours (not exaggerating) on the phone to obtain the info in the above Paragraph. A FAQ page regarding shipping would have saved me so much time and effort--and SC staff as well. B) The difference between "Door" and "White Glove" delivery: When the cabinets arrive, they will be large and there will be a lot of debris. For $270, you can get Estes (in this case), to come in with 2 brutes, to bang up your cabinets for you and get them into place, while removing the trash. Sort of kidding, but not really. They were very brutish with my belongings. Luckily, despite some unsightly scratches, the cabinets are the bomb and made of some super strong steel. Despite the scratches, the product/packaging/functionality/etc overwhelmingly squashed any issues I had with the cosmetic and brutish shipping result. I would have preferred MM to blurt this out very early-on in our discussions rather than letting me discover it after all I went through. It almost felt like salt in the wound after Estes loses my package for 3 weeks and then wants to charge to carry them down four stairs for me. Anyhow, the shipping is the worst part of this whole thing. In the end, you are looking at $580 plus and additional $279 for white-glove delivery. The way MM worded Estes services did not leave me feeling like I would have to pay extra. I would recommend that all customers be cautioned on this in advance, in a straight-forward manner by sales reps. They should be trained to go over this at the end of every order in my opinion. C) Co2 tank is not included: This is a small and obvious thing, probably for most people, but I wish it had been mentioned that with Co2 upgrade, you still have to get a tank. Duh, but still...I wish it would have been pointed out. Again, I think it should be one of those things that the sales person is up-front about, even though it is obvious. D) It is weird how there is no "members" section for materials instructional videos. I am guessing that the company is trying to protect its intellectual property, and for this reason, the "good stuff" has to get emailed to you. Well, sometimes I delete emails on accident. I sure wish, now that Cali is literally on fire, that I could find these videos, or that I had a members section that I could log into. That would have actually made me feel like a king, with regard to my already generally-gleaming sentiment that I have for these people. A members area where you can watch longer videos and download instructions manuals/etc would have been HUGE. It baffled me how there was absolutely no paper instructions for this thing. Yes, they emailed me everything in advance, but even an ikea-style, tiny font, obnoxious paper instruction would have been better than harrassing MM, who is in the middle of evacuating from wild fires. Haha, he must have been so annoyed to have me asking for instructions and cheesy videos while his house is burning down, or whatever. But still, he responded to me. Probably quietly cursed me out, but he responded nonetheless and came through in every way. Thanks again for everything and I look forward to growing big, and "strong!"
