If could give this company -10 I would. I've been a security guard for at least 2 decades. I am no stranger to back ground checks. I have worked with several compaines that did various background checks. But a company I recently applied to has this disgrace of a company in charge of their background checks. Since November 6, 2019 I have done at least 3 or 4 of these tests and complied with every request they asked of me. Just the other day Sterling asked me to do another check. I've done it but my patience with Sterling is just about at an end. And I spoke to them on the phone too. It seemed as if nobody knew what they were talking about or doing. for what its worth I hope hiring managers and HR stop working with worthless companies such as Sterling. There are far better background check companies to work with. My review was for the Canadian version of Sterling. And believe me they are every bit as bad.

Worst worst worst. If you can stay away from this company it is the best you can do. I am struggling with their lack of respect for 2 months. They are utterly disorganised. I don’t understand how a company that treats people with such disregard is being granted permission to operate in the United Kingdom. You call and they never know anything. It’s a nightmare. Their system is all over the place. Their staff lacks training and proper work conditions. Every time I call they complain abou the system. No respect at all for customers

If are “lucky” to have SterlingCheck do background check based on your future employer request you need to keep a few things in mind. They have 2 groups: one NA and another one international. You can talk directly with NA team but you can’t talk to international team. Communication with Sterling is bad. Different teams ask for the same info 2 or 3 times. Always follow up on every request. It’s not only Sterling it’s your company recruiter requests that they need to comply with. Sterling doesn’t do anything on their own. Always check with your recruiter what info is still missing. Recruiter has to accept every search conducted by Sterling. It’s true DIY background search. In one case I had to call 5 times to get right info on why the search wasn’t done yet. Sterling is a weird company but so is your future employer that hired them. Unfortunately, Sterling now is the biggest background search company in US & Canada. You need to learn how to handle them. Call, call, call

Held 6 jobs never had to issue old w2s, 1099s, school information in every little detail for background checks. I tried speaking to sterling they refused to work with me, couldn’t find that info was in process of moving. Later found out from potential employee if I had called and told them this she told me they could have worked with Me. So I did not get job due to not sending the info on time. They asked for this info even when on website it says it’s ok if you can’t provide 7 years of job. Clearly not as you will need to send them that info regardless. If this is what new background checks for jobs are entailing, that’s crazy. Will this help them weed out narcissistic killers? Is that what they hope to do? 0.o

Please be advised that your Sterling background check information clearly states CONVICTIONS and therefore anything else is information that is obtained without complete consent.

They have called multiple times stating they verified my employment with a company I owned as only being a manager and for different time frames then the company was even open. They demand that I email unredacted documents with PII (personally identifying information) on them. They speak very broken English on the phone and told me I couldn't have owned the buisness because "we verified Xxxx dates not the ones you just gave us"...verified with who I ran the buisness who did you speak to that knows more about when i worked for myself then me? Now you want W2s not a license issued by the state that shows i was still operating and doesn't contain PII. They just want to sell your PII to the highest bidder. This company should be shut down. Also a W2 from a buisness owner...? How many buisness owners are W2 employees. Not many.

This is the WORST company as years ago they had trouble verifying my education and then this year they combined 2 of my 3 contracts working for a company, did a background check and driving background on me for IN which I have never ever lived in IN and then they go ahead and had entered in the wrong dates of my employment for one of my jobs. If I still want the job it is my job to go to my past employers and request pay stubs and then they will consider me for their client's February 24 class when I have not worked since January 2 2020 and last pay check was on January 11 2020.
