Just absolute piles of rubbish. Really unclear about what they wanted, if they wanted me to use a template, etc. Also not very digital- a lot of my previous offer letters, financial statements are digital as I've been going paperless for years, and they have no ability to deal with this (and I don't have a scanner to get a hard copy of everything). This part of a new job is always painful, but this is the most painful process I have ever been through

So when reading reviews, especially poor reviews it is very easy to think - maybe this is just a bad review based on one bad experience. As an agency recruiter, I have to use Sterling Backcheck as per my clients request, and can honestly say they are the most lazy, obstructive, unhelpful individuals on the face of God’s green earth - and they are so every single time. If you want anything doing, you need to chase, chase, chase!!! They never take the initiative and never sense check anything they do. Few examples; One candidate failed an employment verification, because when Sterling contacted his previous employer they made a typo. The candidate was able to show me his employment contract which clarified his start date. I passed it across to Sterling but they “don’t accept employment contracts as verification” so I asked them to contact the company again to clarify if it is a mistake. They told me it would cost me extra, I said fine. 1 week later still not done. I batter one of them through the phone line who finally agrees to put in a call. They call once and refuse to follow up again..... 2) A candidate failed a background check, because Sterling Backcheck decided to contact the wrong department who would not/could not verify this gentlemen’s employment. So I contacted the company, after 5 minutes on the phone I was connected with the man that could verify my candidates employment, so phoned Backcheck back and suggested they call this number of a man that currently worked in the company, with the authority to verify my candidates employment. They refused because “it’s not process”. Worst company on the planet. Frankly a miracle they’re still going, until they go bust you are just going to have to hound them constantly. Nothing gets done unless you hold their hand.

If I could give negative five stars I so would. So I began doing the background check and after about a week and a half two weeks when the orientation was going to happen I find out they're still not done with my background check. So turns out with Burlington they do the background check without fingerprints. I've been told I'm done with my background check. But then I just got an email saying that I'm not done and it's still in progress. Be prepared for multiple people telling you multiple different things. For them to work as slow as molasses. Now when I contacted Burlington they told me they do not do the fingerprint background and they were highly confused why Sterling was even talking about that. So about a month and I'm still not complete with my background check because they're awaiting Burlington to switch their preference and get fingerprints I guess. Very confused if I ever find out I have to deal with these people again for a job I might as well not even do the application. Truthfully I have been looking for a job and perform different background checks and no problem with any of them but this is the first place that I have got to say is a complete and waste of time and is a joke. I sure hope everybody else has better luck than I do there but as you can see it look at the reviews

HORRIBLE!!!!!! Been a week since my job offer and they keep giving me the run around ..feel like turning the offer down.

This is by far the worst company. I for one have never had to deal with a background check agency, period. For me to have to constantly contact them, and explain to them my circumstance and for them to insist I'm wrong when I KNOW HOW TO READ PAPERS, is not how business should be done. If an American citizen is stating several times they can not provide paperwork from another country because they are not nor have identification from that country, look at the proper protocols for getting a candidate the right paperwork. An american can be verified through the FBI as well so consider that route of investigation, instead of telling that candidate to come out of pocket $300 of their own money. THE WORST!!!!!!!!

This company looks suspicious to me, they ask me to do all the work for them, and for the type of request they do, it appears that they are not located in the USA and that they are not familiar with american way of life, I spoke with one of the representatives about my UBER work, and the lady did not know what UBER or LYFT are, so I check on them and I found that they are not a reliable company to hold my personal information, so I contact my employer and let them know that I will not cooperate with Sterling any more so they can or can not hire me but I will not give up more personal information to them.

Last week I was asked for and complied somewhat miraculously to submit W2s for a job from 2009 ! I do keep records but really ? Then this week I was asked to submit a current pay stub and another W2 for a job from 4 years ago but they ignored one from 2 years ago. I sent that one as a courtesy lol. A complete joke , makes me really question the company I’m applying for . . Now all sorts of personal information is out there . 401k Payment information. PTO balances. I think I’m going to start a new business. All I need is Truth finder app and make my applicants submit W2 , brilliant !

DIY background check. After having to send in additional documents for proof of employment, I called. During this conversation I asked was anything else needed. She responded no. The next day my background check comes back stating I was dishonest about a start day. So I call again to see why they didn't ask for specific dates. The agent attempted to tell me which check stub I sent in. I sent in my last one, he assumed I sent my first. The company doesn't know anything. I'm highly upset at this point!
