First if the option to give zero stars was possible we would at the Georgetown Tx location. Now, you try to do the right thing and follow rules regarding alert them to income and are told when you find employment to call and join work program to protect your benefits in the event you are unable to maintain the position. Found a part time position, called to report income and request the work program and the CSR immediately began speaking not allowing a word to be said. Would not allow us to communicate and said there was another number to call for work program, asked for that number and she kept circling back to report income, attempted several times to request the work program number and she would not provide it. Told her as soon as she provided that number we could move onto the report income portion and had to repeat that several times with her speaking over us before she placed us on hold and finally came back with the number, confirming that we had the number correct and said ok to report income, provided the employer and she would not respond, yhe call was still connected but she would not say anything so we hung up and called back to start the process again. Waiting on them to call back.

I wish I could give this 0 stars. The Social Security website is as useless as the current administration in the WH.

Do not try to schedule an appointment.. You get to the office and they make you wait in line with everyone else that didn’t have an appointment.. wasted time… and the security team is wasted money… truly wasted tax payers money…

The social security administration website directs you to fill out an online application to apply for retirement benefits but the link does not work and there’s no way to report the issue to get them to fix it which would be helpful especially since they have NO appts to apply for my benefits.

I just got my green card, and I had to update my SS card. Tried to make the appointment on line, but their site didn’t work for me. So, I had to get to one of their offices (in Reston) to solve the issue, face to face. They sent me back, with so called instructions, to get an appointment confirmation number and get back to them. I tried the site again. It didn’t work. Called them. Then, the mystery was somehow solved: they have my birthdate wrongly assigned. Went back second time to their office to ask for date birth rectification. A very unfriendly, no soft skills, bad English speaking agent, detoured me again saying that he cannot help me, that I must come, third time, to an appointment they booked for me, but for which I can’t get an on line confirmation number (they insist on that!!) yet. So, I expect them giving me a hard time, again, next time.. I am dissatisfied how this institution is training its stuff members and how they behave, as if they make citizens some huge favor by discussing with them. Nothing to mention about how poorly their databases are maintained and updated.

When I was applying for retirement benefits, I gave the rep my bank information, repeated the routing number and checking account number to make sure they got the account numbers right. Starting Sept. 1st, my retirement checks were sent back several times and S.S. never called me to let me know there was a problem. I have given them my account number several times and they keep getting it wrong. Everytime I talk to someone, they'll tell me, "your check is coming tomorrow, or 3 days, then 5 days. Last week, I was told this Wed, (Sept. 16th) I'll get my check. Today, they tried to deposit my check, and again, they sent it to an account that doesn't exist. My bank sent it back. When I asked if my check was arriving Wed, she said no, it'll be Fri. I had to call my bank, then S.S. and if course I talked to a different rep and he said, I'll get my check next week. Seriously, don't these people know how to read? My rent is overdue and my truck payment is late. The communication sucks with S.S. No one seems to know what's going on. I said, why don't you admit you have no plans on sending me my check. No comment from the rep.

Just had one of the most insensitive, horrible experiences with the agent Ms Gould regarding questions on the Lump Sum Death Benefit of $255.00. She was callous, rude, sarcastic, and insensitive regarding living relatives and who could claim the benefit. I am not really shocked that Social Security hires agents with minimal customer service skills but considering questions regarding death benefits you would hope they at least hire agents with some sensitivity? Ms Gould needs more training and I hope this review prompts supervisors to review our phone conversation and takes some kind of action! Kathleen Smith

I am submitting this complaint to document a pattern of serious service failures I have experienced with this federal agency. Despite being fully compliant with all requirements and legally entitled to the benefits in question, I have repeatedly encountered misinformation, unprofessional conduct, and a lack of basic procedural competence. Over multiple calls, representatives have provided incorrect information, contradicted themselves, and dismissed my concerns. I have been placed on hold numerous times, told to “give the organization grace,” and even subjected to inappropriate personal remarks such as, “I treat every customer as if they are my mother.” Despite lengthy conversations, no progress has been made on my claim, and each representative appears unaware of the details of my previous calls. It is especially troubling that although representatives claim to record my information, there is consistently no record of my prior inquiries when I call back for a status update. This forces me to repeat the same information and concerns every time, resulting in significant delays and frustration. Additionally, the wait time for a phone appointment is six to eight weeks. Yet even during these calls, representatives are unable to explain the next steps or how I should prepare. When I finally received an appointment, the agent was disrespectful, uninformed about the purpose of the meeting, and provided false information. When corrected, she attempted to justify the error by stating “the law changed,” referring to a change that occurred decades ago. When I requested a supervisor, I was told, “We are short of help,” instead of being provided proper escalation. The lack of knowledge of the laws governing their own work, the absence of accurate record‑keeping, and the dismissive attitude toward legitimate concerns demonstrate a systemic problem. Filing a complaint has also proven ineffective, as no meaningful follow‑up or resolution has occurred. These repeated failures raise serious concerns about accountability, training, and the responsible use of taxpayer dollars. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed thoroughly and that corrective action be taken to ensure that claimants—especially seniors and individuals relying on legally mandated benefits—receive competent, respectful, and lawful service.
