My 79 year old father has been….
My 79 year old father has been declining this year and now cannot do stairs to the second floor where the full bathroom is. We looked into a chairlift but that was going to be $13,000. We looked into assisted living and that would have been $7,000 a month. My mom did not want to move out of their home over not having a shower on the main floor. So I started to search the internet for portable showers and found Shower Bay. This was exactly what we needed! It is a perfect size. It functions exactly like a shower. It disassembles and stores easily if they are having friends over but my mom likes to show it off. My mom went to a fabric store and made a cover for it if someone stops by unexpectedly and she wants to cover it but it actually looks fine uncovered. My father loves it. He likes how private he feels in an open area (we have it in their kitchen dining area). My mom fits right in it as well to provide assistance to my dad and says it is so easy to shower him in it. The visiting nurse, physical, occupational and speech therapist all love it and are going to show their other patients it as many people need a first floor shower with a small step in that can convert to a ramp/wheelchair access. My dad loves being able to have an actual shower. My mom is 81 and it is so easy for her to hook up the hoses and operate. Plus the shower comes with a ramp which we are going to need in the future once my dad is not able to walk into the shower. Allowing my parents to age at home through end of life is not an issue any longer. I have been a medical social worker for 27 years who works with seniors with progressive diseases and so many want to age in place at home with family or hired caregiver support. This is definitely a product I will be showing them. The price point is great for the community I serve. It is June right now and we live in Michigan so I may look into a heat lamp or something for the winter months if my dad feels cool when taking the shower. We did not buy the mat at Home Depot yet but will look into it. Right now we we use a towel for my dad to step on when coming out of the shower. There are no leaks or water from the shower rather wet feet when coming out of the shower onto a linoleum floor. Also when I purchased the Shower Bay, I spoke directly with Russell. He was not pushy about getting a sale. He asked great questions about my inquiry for needing Shower Bay and wanted to make sure I understood how it functioned and wanted to make sure it was going to fit my need. Delivery was quick, arrived in excellent condition-no damage.
