I wish we would've read the reviews on this company (shopseating) before we purchased 2 tulip chairs a few years back where we had lots of problems with shipping (one hadn't arrived after 5 weeks, so when it finally delivered it was severely damaged so the delivery co. would not deliver it, until about 3 months later when we got it) and then one of the chairs literally broke off its base after 3 months of use and my guest who sat on it fell to the floor. Luckily my floor is carpeted so she wasn't badly injured, only some bruises. Even so, I felt so guilty, bad for my guest's welfare and embarrassment to both of us. The 2nd. chair was so wobbly even after I've retightened it over and over again that I decided to trash it. Reason I just now give this review is two fold, one is to warn other consumers and secondly, since we truly like the tulip chairs I started to search again but want to make sure I don't buy from "the same" company since I've forgotten (till now) the name of this (Shopseating) co. & couldn't locate the invoices. Their reproductions are pieces of junk in quality/workmanship. 'Nuff said! Please be warned.

I bought a Herman Miller Aeron chair from them 4 years ago. NOT once was there indication on their website and BILL that it was a re-furbished chair though the claim it has always been on their webiste. My partner would never have purchased a refurbished chair - it's not our style. My chair broke and Herman Miller said that shopseating.com is not a registered seller of their chair and they will not honour the warranty since there is no serial number. I paid $850 for my chair the same amount as a brand new one. They're half trues and poor customer service is clearly an indication of their poor reputation.

I purchased a $380 chair from ShopSeating.com. The first chair shipped with a broken arm that needed to be replaced. This is after I had asked them to inspect the product prior to shipment. After receiving the defective chair, I described the problem to them accurately and thoroughly, asking for prompt remedy. They sent me one defective/inadequate arm after the other in hopes of correcting the problem. They sent me the wrong arm on 10/25/2010, the wrong pad on 11/3/2010, and the wrong arm again on 11/16/2010. They sent 2 wrong arms and 1 incorrect arm pad in all. After assurances they had sent the correct arm on 11/16, I proceeded to fix it only to discover that that too was an incorrect arm. However, once the arm is inserted into the chair, you cannot remove it, and sometimes you can't tell it’s wrong until after it's inserted into the chair base. Again, though, I was assured this was the correct arm. The arm locked into the chair and couldn’t be removed. To remedy the situation, the company sent me another chair, which was DEFECTIVE AS WELL. At this point I sent them photos of the 2nd defective chair. They agreed to refund my money, but they then reneged. They advised me they wanted the chairs back, which I agreed to. They also agreed to pay the shipping charges, and they sent me two boxes to ship the items back. The boxes were too small, and I advised them of this. They wanted me to take the chairs apart in order to get them into the boxes, which I advised I couldn't do because they would not come apart. A representative called me on December 22 and advised that I should beat the base of the chair with a hammer until the base and the chair separates. I tried as best as I could, but I could not accomplish this. Had I continued you in this manner, it’s very possible they could have come back to me and said that I damaged/abused the chairs. These chairs are designed to fit together and lock into place. I advised them that I needed bigger boxes because of this. They, in turn, continue to ignore repeated requests for appropriate action and follow up. And I have yet to receive a refund. They have mishandled this from the start, and we're going on 3 months without resolution.

I recently bought a Aeron chair from Shopseating and what arrived was laughably wrong. I ordered a fully adjustable chair in lead in size C with adjustable arms and hard floor casters. What I got was a basic chair in graphite in size B with non-adjustable arms and standard casters. Two emails and four phone calls later, I finally have a return shipping label. I have no idea how long or how many phone calls it will take to get the money credited back to the card. The weird thing is that I don't think these guys are malevolent or frauds, I just think they singularly and woefully disorganized. They were as pleasant and apologetic on the phone as they were unhelpful. So, I truly wish I could recommend them, but there's really no way I can.

Ordered a Steelcase Leap V1 highback chair via eBay - their listing, pictures and description were very specific about this chair having V1 features. Shipping was fast but what they sent was a mish-mash chair with V1 base, frame and arms but V2 seat pan (no adjustable lip) and back (stiffer and does not recline as far as V1). Already owning a full V1 chair, the difference was obvious. While the differences are minor engineering-wise, the chairs do not feel the same. I sent them a full description of problem and pictures of what was wrong. Their communications were intermittent and they never fully admitted what went wrong. They sent a replacement Leap V1 seat pan (without return shipping for the first one) within a week but three weeks later still hadn't owned up to the problem with the back. Had to tell them I was about to leave negative feedback before I got further action. It turns out that their service department has no clear idea of the differences between the Steelcase Leap chair V1 and V2 and didn't know what part to order to ensure they got a V1 back. At that point we negotiated a $75 refund just to get it over with (I should have held out for more; a replacement back is way more expensive than that) and they sent a shipping label to return the old seat pan. All that said, the chair is not a bad chair at all. Even though it is refurbished it is in excellent condition and was packed very well when shipped. Shifting from this chair to my "real" V1 when I change workstations is a bit odd but I've gotten used to it. The big issue is simply that the chair is not what they advertised or what I originally paid for and they really did not go far enough on their own to make things right. The last guy I spoke with indicated they send out Steelcase Leap chairs like this all the time with no complaints... maybe most of their Steelcase Leap customers haven't done their research or don't care as much. If you're looking for a refurb Steelcase Leap based on the chair's reputation but don't actually own one yet you would probably be very happy with what you get from ShopSeating. But if you're attempting to duplicate the feel of a V1 chair you already own, I'd shop somewhere else.

My credit card was immediately charged when I placed my order, contrary to the policy advertised on the website. When I made calls to customer service regarding the shipping date for my Aeron chair I was repeatedly told that there was a backlog and it would ship soon. When I said enough is enough, refund my money, the customer service agent agreed to reverse the charges on my card but shipped the chair without the back support instead. The company never managed to find this part that I had paid for and I needed to purchase it from a real business. I felt as though shopseating's company policy was based upon delay and deception, or else the employee whom I spoke with was simply unqualified to listen to the customer.
