It's been a week since I asked to have a manager call me, and still nothing - not even crickets. This past Friday, they asked for my contact info, which I provided within minutes. NADA.
I'm becoming more and more convinced this was a mistake.
You know, if you please a customer, they'll tell their friends. If you don't please a customer, they'll tell EVERYONE. We're not quite at that point yet, but getting closer. I made a posting the other day on another subject, and it got 12,600 views overnight. I wonder how many I'll get with Service Experts.
Not impressed at all!

Absolute corporate negligence and an…
Absolute corporate negligence and an illegal equipment mismatch. Do not trust this company. I paid Service Experts $12,247 in CASH for what was supposed to be a complete, brand-new matching HVAC system replacement under a 1-year labor warranty. Instead, they left me with a broken system that has suffered EIGHT high-pressure safety shutdowns, leaving my house at 77 degrees in the peak Alabama summer heat. After dealing with 7 useless service visits where they hid my paperwork and continuously charged me breakdown fees, I audited the equipment myself. I discovered a massive, unacceptable code violation: They installed a brand-new next-generation outdoor heat pump (Lennox Merit ML14KP1) engineered exclusively to run on new R-454B refrigerant. They paired it with a legacy, completely mismatched indoor evaporator coil (Model CK40HT) explicitly stamped with a factory tag that reads: "Suitable for R-410A."They shoved next-gen refrigerant into an obsolete R-410A system using my old, un-flushed copper lineset. This mismatched chemical cocktail creates a physical restriction, backing up extreme pressure and destroying the compressor. To make matters worse, a technician came out today, saw large holes in the ductwork they damaged on a previous visit, and just slapped tape over it. He then admitted he didn’t have the proper diagnostic tools to check for a leak, blindly injected random "freon" into a contaminated loop against all safety codes, and slammed me with an $89 fee on the spot. They take your cash, cut dangerous installation corners, refuse to provide service tickets, and repeatedly charge you for diagnostics on their own defective workmanship. I have escalated this fraudulent mismatch directly to Service Experts Corporate headquarters and filed a formal licensing complaint with the Alabama HACR State Board. Avoid Service Experts Birmingham at all costs.

Do not use them
Do not use them. They take advantage of seniors to make them pay for more than what they need. Sold a senior a commercial grade ac for a one story house, they use unethical practices to make more money.

Predatory practices
Predatory practices! They use contractual opaqueness and high pressure sales to dupe customers into paying for equipment well beyond the conclusion of the “lease.”
It is NOT a lease to own model even though they tell you you’re getting an amazing air-conditioning unit for a low monthly price. You’re not getting anything but tricked out of thousands of dollars. There is a clause embedded on the back page of one of the contract documents that’s written in eight point font, and makes little sense to the average reader. Therein they present a table showing an early termination penalty fee scale after you have made every payment to which you agreed on your contract. The language makes no sense. It is intended to redirect attention. In fact, even after you’ve paid your lease agreement in full, not continuing on with them until you’ve paid for more than the original price of the equipment, which has already depreciated significantly, is still something they demand. Having consumers pay 53% of the original installation makes absolutely no sense as it equates to an imaginary number that is not associated with the actual cost of the equipment.
A Service Expert lease agreement is the equivalent of an HVAC timeshare that invokes a construction lien on your home if you refuse to pay 53% of the original “installed total” upon the conclusion of a multi-year contract. You think you’re done after paying $19,000 over 7 years, but then they penalize you for upwards of $8000 more! Ironically, but not surprisingly, they will then try to coax you into a new 10 year agreement, reassuring you that this one is more transparent. Stay away from these deceptive thieves, and if you’re in this situation, contact your lawyer. A class-action lawsuit is long overdue.

We originally had three new Trane HVAC…
We originally had three new Trane HVAC units installed in December 2021 by Hayes Plumbing & AC, a company we trusted. When Hayes was later acquired by Service Experts, we continued using them for our maintenance.
Recently, one of our thermostats suddenly went black. After a quick Google search, I saw that one possible cause is a safety shutoff due to a clogged condensate drain. We called Service Experts to diagnose the problem.
The technician told us the condensate drain was fine, but then claimed our evaporator coil needed to be replaced because it was heavily rusted. Since the coil is located in the attic where we couldn’t inspect it ourselves, we had to rely on what we were told. They showed us what they said were photos of our badly rusted coil, but despite my request, they never provided us with a copy of those photos. Instead, the estimate they sent included temperature readings from a Fieldpiece meter and a video of the furnace fan—not photos of the supposedly failed coil.
Although the replacement coil would have been covered under our Trane warranty, we were quoted approximately $5,500 for labor and refrigerant. We were also told they didn’t know when the replacement coil would be available and that the refrigerant would soon be phased out. The entire situation didn’t seem right, so we decided to get a second opinion before authorizing any work.
We then called a local family-owned company. Their technician thoroughly inspected the system, took multiple photos of the coil, and showed us that it appeared to be in excellent condition with only one very small spot of surface rust, which he said was completely normal for a unit of this age.
The 2nd opinion technician also inspected the condensate overflow system and suspected that the drain line had been left closed during Service Experts’ spring maintenance in March 2026. He further believed that when the Service Experts repair technician responded to our thermostat issue, they most likely simply reopened the drain line, since our thermostat has not gone black or shut off once since that visit. Rather than identifying and explaining what appears to have been a simple issue, we were instead told that our evaporator coil had failed and needed to be replaced at a cost of thousands of dollars.
In addition, the 2nd opinion technician found that the outdoor condenser coils were extremely dirty, causing the condenser to overheat and resulting in high temperatures at the indoor unit. He explained that cleaning the condenser coils is a routine maintenance item that should have been completed during our March 2026 service visit with Service Experts.
Based on our experience, we were presented with a costly repair for a coil that an independent HVAC company determined did not need replacement. We also discovered maintenance issues that should have been addressed during our scheduled service but apparently were not. This has completely undermined our confidence in Service Experts.
If we had not sought a second opinion, we could have spent thousands of dollars on an unnecessary repair. I strongly encourage anyone facing a major HVAC repair recommendation to get an independent second opinion before authorizing expensive work.

Worst Company I have dealt with in 20 years
For the second time on 3 JUN 26, I had an appointment scheduled with Service Experts out of Roanoke, VA, to do routine maintenance as it was provided through them when buying a new HVAC. Less than 30 mins before the appointment, they texted me to let me know they would not be able to make it and that their next available appointment wasn't until 9 Jul. And by that date, the free maintenance would have expired, and I would have to pay for it. This is from the same company that installed a brand-new HVAC we bought from them, and they didn't order the propane conversion apparatus, so it sat in my house for almost 2 weeks not working. Then a different guy shows up and basically says the folks who installed it were not experienced. So, no issues. Awesome, it is now working. Then, within the first 6 months, the HVAC goes out. A different technician comes, and the brand-new system has a broken fan. They had to call because a new HVAC should not already have a broken fan. (no kidding) They ordered the fan, and he tells us the guy who came back to fix the installation was incompetent and had been let go. Then fast forward to the 2 canceled maintenance appointments, and at no point did management call or do anything to apologize. So I could not recommend this company to anyone. Save yourself some time and money cause there are no experts here.
