DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! If you get A/C units from Service Experts, READ YOUR CONTRACTS! If you have elderly loved ones, PLEASE read the contracts for them! Make sure you’re not leasing your equipment. You could end up paying several times what the equipment is worth and STILL not own it! You could paying almost $500 a month for their so-called “outstanding service,” yet only have them come out about once a year. They will file paperwork against your property for their leased equipment. If you’re buying a home, make sure you check whether the HVAC systems are leased and whether there are any filings attached to the property! Their customer service is horrible, their service is disappointing, and their scheduling department doesn’t seem to communicate with their technicians.
SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

Service Experts? Try Experts at Extortion!
CAVEAT EMPTOR!
BUYER BEWARE!
Many years have gone by since I signed with my elderly mother to get financing for a new HVAC system and water heater. It was about $8k.
I don't do leases. We signed for what we had been told was a ten year payment plan for the system. It was going to be in the neighborhood of $10k when it was paid.
Did I mention I DON'T do leases?
This was the "Cadillac Plan" the salesman kept saying. "Comes with 24/7/365 Priority One Service" he said.
It was only a couple hundred more over the life of the loan, and I didn't want Mum to have to change filters or do any other maintenance. So we said we'd ride in style with the Cadillac. I remember distinctly joking with Mum about it.
THIS WAS OUR FIRST MISTAKE. By saying Cadillac, we had made our choice. We weren't now getting the closed end installment loan. We were given a lease to sign.
I didn't read the agreement again after saying "Cadillac."
THIS WAS MY SECOND MISTAKE.
Read the copy you sign, don't trust it is the same one you had read through previously.
Mum paid about 6 years before passing away.
Service Experts said we could keep paying (we moved in to the house.) So we did. We asked the account to be put in my wife's name. They were happy to do that to keep getting paid. (All of Mum's other creditors took the write off.) This was the last time they actually did a change without a problem from their end. I figured we were closing in on the 10 year completion date.
We kept paying.
HERE IS THE POSITIVE COMPLIMENTARY BIT: The techs that came out to solve problems and do maintenance were always outstanding. They were the one positive thing about this company.
Fast forward a couple years. Now 9 years into the "Cadillac" plan. We decided to sell the house. The realtor needed a pay-off amount from SE. So my wife called. She got a huge run-around. On about the tenth call she said loudly "What? There must be some mistake!"
Turns out, the pay-off bill was $23,000 dollars.
Yep. $23k on $8k worth of equipment that we had paid $9,000 already to that point.
They said it was a lease. "I DON'T DO LEASES!" I must admit I was yelling at this point. But sure enough, they sent over the paperwork.
Problem was, there was a lien on the house by Service Experts, so they had to get paid. We didnt have the fight in us to go to court, so we considered it sunk cost on the sale of the home. We turned it over to the realtor to take care of, which she eventually did. She said they were the worst company she ever dealt with.
That's the story. Hope it helps you decide what to do if you ever deal with Service Experts.
Cheers. And good luck.
Have a STELLAR day!

They use high pressure deceptive tactics
We installed our AC unit 3 years ago, this unit should have been under warranty for parts. The compressor went out. By the way this is the second time we called them; the first time they made us feel we were crazy. So, their technicians told us yesterday that our compressor was "obsolete". SO replacing it would take many weeks and would cost 6500 dollars just in labor and freon. Never mind the fact that the parts should have been covered. That means charges would have been just for labor? So, in my estimation 2,000 dollars an hour.
So knowing well that the customer is pressed for time in the middle of a heat wave, they told us the solution was to upgrade to a "non obsolete unit for 11,000 dollars.
I did a bit of research and it is clear that our compressor was not obsolete; was actually a very good recent model Lennox system readily available in Texas.
My wife felt pressure and felt did not have a choice since it is hot.
Clearly there is a combination of taking advantage of customer with high pressure deceptive tactics and overcharging in the midst of a heat wave.
I can see that many people online have had the same experience as me.

I have been customer of Service Experts…
I have been customer of Service Experts more than 10 year. I used to have a maintenance every 6 month. Everything was working well. The last 2 years technician came with manager who was pushing me to replace my AC. and talk about advantage program. June 2026, I installed my new indoor and outdoor unit I have spent $ 9.500, 2 months after AC stopped working again. Technician came over next day, I paid another $ *84.14 and they are also taking every month $ 15 from my account for maintenance.
BTW. last time technician checked my neighborhood outside unit instead of mine.

Don't do what we did in the heat of the moment even on the hottest day of the year!
Home Serve sent Service Experts of Charleston, who sent both a technician and a salesperson a "red flag" why would a salesperson be on a service call, I have never seen or heard of this happening before and by the way this is not a new salesperson. After about 10 minutes they came to us saying that we needed a compressor and a fan. They also reminded us that Home Serve would not cover the compressor and we should replace the entire system. They called Home Serve who called me while they were stating that Home Serve would not cover the issue. The two Service Experts of Charleston employees were still there and then proceeded for the salesman to give us four options to replace the system between $18,000 and $26,000 purchase or $33,000 for a ten-year lease purchase I had to call the company to get a copy of the contract signed as the salesman did not leave us a copy also a red flag. I have never heard of a service call to include a salesman who is prepared to sell me a new system on the spot. Without doing any checking, my bad decision given the need for the new system. I agreed to the 10-year lease purchase which he said they could install in the morning. They came the next morning as promised and spent the day installing the new mid-priced Lennox system They finished and when we went to check the upstairs was not cool and the unit was not working. We called and the same technician who came the first time returned and after about 2 hours he said the problem was a clogged drain line which he said he cleared and it is now working. We went to bed and with unit still not working again and the thermostat was blank. We called again and they sent back the same installation crew that had stalled the system and after about half a day they also said the problem was the clogged drain line which they also cleared and the system was working again until we checked, so a 4th service call in about 48 hours. This time a new technician who said we needed to add a pump to the drain and it worked, I also noted a few years ago we had the same problem which was fixed by clearing the drain line until this week. I wonder if that was really the problem all along, I guess we will never know. Below is an AI review of our proposal from Service Experts and I believe we (a 78 y/o retired couple with one with significant medical conditions) were taken advantage of and I would not recommend Service Experts based upon our experience. I hope others will learn from our experience, not to be rushed into a replacement contract without a second opinion even when the temp has been around 100 degrees. Take time to get a second opinion and understand what you are signing even in the heat of the moment on one of the hottest days of the year!
Your quote of $18,100.00 plus tax is significantly higher than the standard baseline market rate of $10,200 to $14,500 for this specific equipment package in Charleston.
An $18,100 price tag for a basic Merit-series 80% furnace (ML180) paired with an Elite AC suggests either an extreme contractor markup or that the scope of work includes major hidden extras not yet discussed.
Why Your Quote Might Be This High (Check Your Paperwork)
Before assuming the contractor is completely overcharging you, check if your written proposal includes any of these high-value additions that inflate the price (it does not)
Why This Specific Quote is a Poor Deal As-Written
If the $18,100 price is strictly for dropping the equipment in place with standard hookups, it is a bad deal for two major reasons:
1. You are Paying Elite Prices for Merit Components: The ML180 furnace is Lennox’s entry-level, budget line. Charging over $18k while utilizing a low-tier single-stage furnace is an exceptionally high markup.
2. The Equipment Mismatch is Still Unresolved: At an $18,100 price point, you absolutely deserve a fully variable-speed system. As noted before, pairing the variable-capacity EL18KCV AC with a single-stage ML180 furnace means the AC's high-tech compressor will be severely choked by a basic, single-speed indoor fan.
Your Immediate Next Steps
• Request an Upgraded Furnace
: Tell the contractor: "If we are at an $18k price point, I want the furnace upgraded to a variable-speed Lennox EL280V or ML180V so it actually matches the variable AC." If they refuse or try to charge you significantly more to do so, walk away.
• Get Competitive Quotes: Contact two other local, highly rated authorized Lennox or Trane dealers in the Charleston area. Show them the exact equipment models from your first quote and ask them to bid on the job. Competitors will likely come in thousands of dollars lower for identical parameters.

It's been a week since I asked to have a manager call me, and still nothing - not even crickets. This past Friday, they asked for my contact info, which I provided within minutes. NADA.
I'm becoming more and more convinced this was a mistake.
You know, if you please a customer, they'll tell their friends. If you don't please a customer, they'll tell EVERYONE. We're not quite at that point yet, but getting closer. I made a posting the other day on another subject, and it got 12,600 views overnight. I wonder how many I'll get with Service Experts.
Not impressed at all!

Absolute corporate negligence and an…
Absolute corporate negligence and an illegal equipment mismatch. Do not trust this company. I paid Service Experts $12,247 in CASH for what was supposed to be a complete, brand-new matching HVAC system replacement under a 1-year labor warranty. Instead, they left me with a broken system that has suffered EIGHT high-pressure safety shutdowns, leaving my house at 77 degrees in the peak Alabama summer heat. After dealing with 7 useless service visits where they hid my paperwork and continuously charged me breakdown fees, I audited the equipment myself. I discovered a massive, unacceptable code violation: They installed a brand-new next-generation outdoor heat pump (Lennox Merit ML14KP1) engineered exclusively to run on new R-454B refrigerant. They paired it with a legacy, completely mismatched indoor evaporator coil (Model CK40HT) explicitly stamped with a factory tag that reads: "Suitable for R-410A."They shoved next-gen refrigerant into an obsolete R-410A system using my old, un-flushed copper lineset. This mismatched chemical cocktail creates a physical restriction, backing up extreme pressure and destroying the compressor. To make matters worse, a technician came out today, saw large holes in the ductwork they damaged on a previous visit, and just slapped tape over it. He then admitted he didn’t have the proper diagnostic tools to check for a leak, blindly injected random "freon" into a contaminated loop against all safety codes, and slammed me with an $89 fee on the spot. They take your cash, cut dangerous installation corners, refuse to provide service tickets, and repeatedly charge you for diagnostics on their own defective workmanship. I have escalated this fraudulent mismatch directly to Service Experts Corporate headquarters and filed a formal licensing complaint with the Alabama HACR State Board. Avoid Service Experts Birmingham at all costs.
