Defective and not user serviceable
Unit was only used a few times and a sensor went and it had to be returned for service. I found out it is not user serviceable at all… not even for the igniter! Something I wish had been communicated to me when I bought the unit less than a month ago. I would not buy it again for that reason … Sure the seer is good BUT I have an old Weber it came with a 10 yr warranty I have kept it going over that time easily all by myself. A good thing is The company did arrange for Ups return ship & labelling and I brought it to the depot on going The shipping alone to repair will be an ongoing burden let alone having any igniter changed . When a 5$ part is all that is needed but the user is unable to service it. I have no idea if the Manu would sell you parts as their policy is that the grill is NOT USER serviceable… What happened to the right to repair? Not everyone has a 2 decimal place IQ Addendum, while the manu claims that the temperature is too high for service by the end user, there are other gas certified technicians who would be local and could do the work if parts were made available to them. I guess they are using the Tesla approach rather than the right to repair locally or by yourself. Outside of the time to ship they did fix it rapidly when it arrived ... which is stellar! Response from Schwank GrillsJan 23, 2023
Hi Ray, as we mentioned over the phone the unit is not serviceable in the field because it is riveted together. The reason for this is due to the intense heat of the grill, screws would warp and break off making it impossible for a customer to service the grill in the field. This is why we offer shipping and repairs free of charge when under Warranty. We apologize for the inconvenience, however, there is no alternative solution when repairing a grill that puts out 1500 degrees of heat.
