Claim Rejected on Technicality – Hospitalization Treated as “Unnecessary”
I am extremely disappointed with Safeway’s health insurance policy and their unjust claim rejection. We filed a hospitalization claim for my family member who was admitted due to severe right leg weakness and pain caused by L4–L5 disc prolapse and nerve compression. The patient underwent MRI, continuous pain management, medications, and physiotherapy under medical supervision at the hospital. Despite this, Safeway rejected the claim stating that the treatment was “conservative” and could have been done on an OPD basis. This is completely unfair and insensitive. Hospitalization was advised by qualified doctors based on the patient’s condition, pain severity, and mobility issues—not by the policyholder’s choice. Insurance is meant to support customers during genuine medical emergencies, not to deny claims using complex exclusion clauses after premiums have been collected for years. Rejecting a valid hospitalization just because no surgery was performed sets a very poor precedent and defeats the purpose of having health insurance at all. This experience has resulted in financial stress and mental harassment for our family. I strongly advise others to read policy exclusions very carefully and think twice before trusting Safeway Health Insurance. Very dissatisfied. Would not recommend.
