Always had amazing experiences with Remote Year. Done 6 months with them, just finished Bali and had the most incredible time. If you’re thinking about it, do it! Will be some of the best months of your life.

Remote Year Not Recommended
Remote Year projects as being on time, efficient and reliable, but my actual experience was anything but. The biggest frustration is the drop in communication, especially in regards to refunds for botched excursions and about frustrations. I do not recommend a Remote Year experience for the cost they want.

Thank you for the feedback.
We understand your frustration on this occasion and we also feel your disappointment, as it is always our goal to deliver stellar programming. Unfortunately in this instance, we experienced a rare occasion when we were let down by a new vendor in a new destination. We always aim to work with trusted local vendors and partners who will help us provide the best and most enriching local experiences for our community. Due to their failure to deliver the agreed-upon services, we will not be using these vendors again.
We would also like to apologize for not providing timely communication in regard to refunds, as we were working on providing the best solution for our participants. The issue was eventually rectified and any refund requests were addressed.
Thank you for your comments, as we listen to all your experiences and strive to improve our programs each time.

The Bali RY retreat!
The Bali experience was awesome! Especially the city leadership! I would be delighted to be back!

Do Something Big!
Words cannot truly express my experience with Remote Year in the Mozart Journey. It was my first time traveling internationally on my own. Needless to say, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Our group ranged in age from 20's through 60's and we all were able to bring value to what turned out to be a wonderful table of lifelong friendship. The Remote Year team thought of everything from accommodations, to workspace, internet, and those exciting day and weekend adventures! As a mother, I am grateful for the experiences I am able to pass along to my daughters who are watching and being inspired by my adventures! I look forward to traveling again and again with Remote Year! I highly recommend Remote Year to people who are ready to live life on their own terms.

My experience was just so bad
My experience was just so bad, which is truly a shame. I was added to a group already in progress, so 18 of the 20 people already had been traveling together for at least a month, if not 2. Never was I told that this would happen - obviously people were fatigued from meeting new people and traveling, and they had already spent tons of money on excursions and going out in the previous months, and by the time I joined they just wanted to hang at their houses and the excursions either barely had enough people or were cancelled.
On top of this, the one thing I wanted was a community to hang with, and instead I was put in a house alone for the first week, which is a long time in a foreign country. I didn't find out until I was already there, and RY never told me at all - I found out from my van driver from the airport. When I told them I didn't feel safe staying by myself 10 minutes from anyone else in the program, they refused to let me stay the week with any other groups, and finally asked a man who had paid extra for private accommodations if I could stay with him, which was so uncomfortable. There was at least one empty room in a group house.
I mostly had all my meals alone and went to bed at 9 every night. It was 100% the most lonely trip I've ever done. I could have easily stayed in a hostel, saved $2k, and had a better time and met more people.
If you are thinking of doing an RY, make sure you do a stand-alone month and don't join a group already in progress. They know this sucks but they do it anyway. And be specific about what you want from accommodations - in my country it was supposed to be 3-8 people per house, but instead I was with only one person who wasn't even there the first week. I personally wouldn't do a 1 month again - it always felt like everything was done to accommodate the 4 month folks to the detriment of the few on the 1 month program. For example, everyone else was there 5 weeks, but I had to leave after 28 days, because that's how long a 1 month program is no matter what apparently. This meant that there were excursions and other things planned that I couldn't do because I had to leave a week earlier than everyone else. The housing was already paid for, so it was actually super weird and just felt like I was being nickled and dimed.

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry that your experience didn’t meet your expectations. Community and belonging are very important to us and we aim to make sure everyone feels at home, and in good company, as they work and travel with us.
Travelers have always been able to join a 1-month Trip in a city where they would coincide with a Journey group and these intersections have been quite popular. When this happens, we take care to notify you by email that you’ll be part of a larger community that month, sharing the same Community Leader and activities. Meeting other remote workers is a fundamental part of Remote Year and one that we strive to get right.
All Remotes are welcome to join group activities but everyone is free to explore on their own, often with friends they’ve made on the program. Our City teams always do their best to include travelers in all activities and to create an environment where everyone feels welcome.
In regards to your housing situation, our City Team advised us that you were alone in your accommodation briefly until the arrival of the person who would be joining you. The group accommodation you later requested to join was unfortunately full and that is the only reason your request could not be met.
We strive to find more ways to make sure communities are fully integrated and have already implemented some changes since November and will continue to do so. This includes making sure that all Remotes have the opportunity to book for the same period in any given month from the outset, and looking at ways to make the community composition more clear for certain months.
We are also putting emphasis on having meaningful conversations with those who have enjoyed our programs, and those who didn’t as much, to understand where the magic can be found and where there are areas to improve.
Your feedback is very valuable to us, as we seek to give every participant the wonderful community experience that makes Remote Year so special.
If you would like to follow up directly with me, you are welcome to email [email protected]
Thank you, Daniel.

Just wrapped up a 1 month program in…
Just wrapped up a 1 month program in Mexico City and it was absolutely incredible! Coming from India, Mexico is a long ways from home, and not somewhere I would have seen myself exploring anytime soon if it wasn't for Remote Year. But I definitely fell in love with the city, the food, the weather and the people. Giral and Omar were the best program leaders I've had in any RY city. They crafted the best experiences, were always available for any/all of our needs and just became great friends. Giral also went out of his way to help plan a surprise birthday party for a fellow remote. My Merida fam was the greatest group of people, and I can't wait to reunite with them and our program leaders on another RY trip sometime very soon!

Remote year is the best way to travel…
Remote year is the best way to travel as a single woman looking for adventure, that also craves the security and camaraderie of having a community. Remote year takes away all the pain points of traveling by securing your accommodations, always having an amazing list of experiences to opt into, as well as a built in group of life-long friends that have the same work, play, travel mindset that you do. After being a part of 4 different RY trips so far, I can honestly say I can't imagine doing it any other way. Thank you Remote Year and a special shout out to the Mexico City team!! Giral and Omar make CDMX a can't-miss destination and I would truly go anywhere with them knowing that my experience was in their hands.
