This was my first trip with Remote Year. While the pandemic raged in New York, I obsessed over their instagram trying to decide which trip to take when travel was possible again. I chose CDMX because I always wanted to visit and because the time zone shift would be easier. I am so glad I did. This trip was LIFE-CHANGING. I met incredible people, discovered so many possibilities for the next chapter of my work life, and fell back in love with myself. The neighborhood we lived in was beautiful, the activities were so fun, and the people I met were extraordinary. Last but not least, Omar and Giral, our incredible city managers, poured so much love and expertise into everything we did. This experience would not be the same without them. If you’re thinking about signing up for Remote Year, I can only say “do it!” You won’t regret a thing.

Mexico City was amazinggggg
Mexico City was amazinggggg! Very friendly people and incredible food. Giral and Omar are the BEST. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and safe and taken care of (and give great recommendations and are just a blast to hang out with). Highly, highly recommend if you’re looking for a 1-month program!

I don't know how easily I can put into words that Remote Year has given me a new lease on life. I keep calling it Study Abroad for Adults. or Sleepaway camp for Adults. And it is those things, but it's more than that. Because as a woman in her early 30s, when all of my friends are having babies and hating their lives, I get to travel around the world, meeting incredible people, and immerse myself in other cultures. I get to laugh, go on adventures, drink wine, learn new things. And I'm still rocking it at work. I feel full and alive and the most crystalline version of joy I have felt in a long time.
I was in Valencia, Spain in September, and just finished a month in Mexico City in November. Both were incredible, but CDMX takes the cake so far. The hours were better for me for work, the group was incredible, the day trips and the weekend trip have CHANGED my life, ANDDDD the cream of the crop is the program leader team - Giral & Omar. Two magical humans who are so present, joyful, thoughtful and energized to lead a bunch of 30-somethings around their home city -- they made the experience as otherworldly as it was.
Remote Year - you have my heart. See you SOON.

Mexico City is a must!!!
Where do I even begin? CDMX has so much to offer as a city - great food, nightlife, people, art, history, culture! Remote Year made my trip amazing. Giral & Omar are truly the BEST! They were always responsive, beyond helpful, and ended up becoming close friends. The excursions are all amazing and this truly is a trip I’ll never forget! Our group became a little family and I’ll stay in touch with most people in my program. Absolutely loved it! Thank you to Giral, Omar, Rox & RY!

A wonderful Month
They took care of the apartment, workspace with great internet and had the option to adding on a lot of wonderful activities. The one team member Arianna was mindblowing. So sweet and thoughtful as well as organized. She made it really memorable. I felt like I always had someone to go to with questions and she also planned a lot of special events for the group that we all loved.
Having a separate room for remote year was also really nice in the workspace. That way we had the option to mix it up in other areas but had reliable desks and quite when needed.
We were located in a really safe area near a lot of yummy food.
We went on so many adventures, got to know a great group and we were all sad to head home in the end.

Fun Experience. But Wouldn't Do It Again.
RY reminds me of my experience of 1st year at university. I'm glad I did it, I met some really cool people, but I would never volunteer to do it again.
I completed a 4-month trip through Latin America last year, and I was paying pre-pandemic prices. So while it was still expensive, it was more reasonable than it is now.
I had no issues with the accommodations, some of the workspaces were better than others, and the internet was always strong.
Furthermore, most of the weekend trips and activities are overpriced. But they're optional, you're paying for convenience and you can always book them on your own.
If you're planning on doing more than a month, hopefully, you can find someone to talk to who has done it before. After 4 months, I was burnt out from trying to work a full-time job, participating in group activities, and constantly changing location. I became very aware that my idea of working and traveling the world at this pace might have been a bit unrealistic and romanticized.
Since RY, I've been working remotely for the past year, but staying in each location for 3 months and it's much better suited to my lifestyle.
Overall, RY was a great way to dip a toe into working remotely and having a company plan and execute all the logistics. I also have a couple of lifelong friends now that I'm really grateful for. But if you're price-conscious, I would probably look into other options.

Thanks for your feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed your experience with Remote Year and made connections through our community. That’s what we’re all about!
Regarding the cost of programs, the price for our 4-month Journeys increased by $1k at the start of 2021, but has remained the same since. Given the increase of travel, accommodation and living costs globally, we believe this still offers excellent value for money, and still comparatively less than the equivalent expenses you’d have in many international cities.
As you mentioned, all weekend trips and activities are optional, and you are welcome to book them independently. Our travelers typically find value in these experiences, as they are curated exclusively for Remote Year and we always work with local vendors we can trust.
It’s true that the nomadic lifestyle can be a bit challenging! Our 4-month journeys are a great way to get a taste of what it’s like to work remotely while traveling, and we aim to make things easier by providing accommodations, workspaces, local City Teams, and community, so you feel supported and can give it a go stress-free.
We’re happy that your Remote Year journey inspired you to work remotely while traveling, and that you’ve decided to continue your adventures at a rhythm that best suits your lifestyle.
We wish you safe and happy travels!
