health guarantee not worth it -update-
We bought our beautiful GSD from puppy spot (then purebred breeders.com). We bought from them specifically for the health guarantee. Colt (or Petey as we named him) was everything we wanted and more. Smart, loyal, protective and a big mush who got along with every other animal in our family...cats, rabbit and even rats. So what is the problem you might be wondering? We lost our beloved Petey to DM this month. When I phoned the company to let them know he was diagnosed with DM, I was told they are no longer associated with that breeder. They also reminded me that within 10 years they would either refund a percent of his price, or apply 50% of his price toward another puppy. They sent me a coupon for a free exam to another vet (free exam cost $73.00). He agreed with the diagnosis but said that the only way to confirm would be to go to a neurologist. So, not only did we not get the refund (I was going to buy him a sling or wheel chair with it), the more important point is that they obviously did not check the breeder out thoroughly. You can test for the marker for DM with a swab. If you buy a puppy through this service, you will receive courteous customer service, but you will pay top dollar for a puppy with a ‘health guarantee’ that is not worth the paper it is written on, unfortunately. Our hearts are broken and we will not be returning to puppy spot for our next canine family member. 5/20/2020 UPDATE:Kim from Puppyspot left a voicemail message on 5/19 and also sent a follow up email expressing condolences and to apologize for our experience. I appreciate the gesture. To be clear though, no one asked for vet records and my initial contact regarding the diagnosis was in February, I believe. I truly hope that Puppyspot has improved their breeder approval process because in our case, it failed. We would not trade our years with Petey for anything. Petey was meant to be with us and we are thankful that we were blessed to have him in our lives. Purebred Breeders brought us together at least and I will leave it at that.

Mary Ann - As dog lovers ourselves, we understand how difficult it is to lose a furry family member and we are truly devastated to learn about Petey's untimely passing. As mentioned in your review, we have since separated from the breeder, as PuppySpot does not stand for substandard breeding practices of any kind. The health of your puppy is our primary concern which is why we also provide an industry-leading Health Guarantee. We stand behind our health guarantee and quickly reached out to you once we first learned of your puppy's diagnosis to request the medical records from your vet to determine how we could help. Unfortunately, we never received the required documentation for review. We are truly very sorry for your loss and remain committed to being here for you at this difficult time. A member of our health team will reach out to you shortly, to learn more and see how we can help. We hope to speak with you soon.
