Worst customer service
A simple refund of less than $10 has cost this company a customer. I had purchased a few items and ended up returning a couple of items that my pet would not eat. I have my receipt as well as the card that was used to make the purchase. The clerk asks me for my phone number and I replied that I don't believe I am a "signed up" with Pet Supermarket currently, and that I am only trying to get a refund. He insists on signing me up for the rewards program in order to issue the refund! And then tells me it's "company policy". Huh?? I end up giving up ALL my info - including email and MAILING address. When I got home, I looked at the receipt again to see if I missed something and it says to confirm refund policy on their website. So I did. No mention of having to be a rewards member in order to get a refund. Then I decided to call customer service and that's when PS lost me as a customer. The guy wasted no time waffling on the answer to my question and then chided me until I just quit talking and let him blather on after initially saying the associate used the wrong verbiage, adding some explanation of, get this, it's an added layer of protection for the CUSTOMER, just in case PS computers mess up and the refund doesn't get back to me. "They would have no record of it and no way to contact you". So, let me get this straight- you need my contact information on the off chance that your computer messes up and doesn't refund the money after losing the contact information that I gave you at the same time the refund is processed. Because you're looking out for ME. I tried explaining to the CS rep that if that were the case, I have the paper receipt showing the refund is due/was paid. I would have gone back to the store and resolved the issue. You know, like normal people do. I don't have to go through ANYTHING like this with any other returned item. And I rarely return anything, it's usually too much trouble. But this pet food is not cheap at Pet Supermarket. Anyway, he seemed way more interested in arguing with me about why they should have the information, before saying that all I had to give was my name and a phone number, not everything else, so yeah, now he's blaming the customer for not knowing this information when I'm standing in front of the associate trying to get my refund. I was forced to sign up for a VIP member account in order to get my refund, was told it is company policy, yet it does not appear ANYWHERE on the back of the receipt, or on the website. This rep was not even interested to know which store this occurred at, so MAYBE they can re-train their employees to use the correct verbiage when processing a simple refund, or to offer a simple apology for the misunderstanding, at the very least. The rep's attitude was unsatisfactory and unprofessional. Very poor representation of the company. I will not shop here again.
