Here's why customers believe Optum is corrupt. I had a wellness visit in June. My doctor asked me if I smoked. I said on weekends if I'm having a couple of drinks I'll smoke maybe two cigarettes. He said smoking is bad for my health. I said I know. In September I get a bill from Optum for $144 . My doctor put in that he had a "smoking cessation" talk with me. My insurance company won't cover it. I'm not paying it!

I had an appointment today at 8:30 am, I arrive at the 60 Merritt Blvd at 8:22 am I checked in with the receptionist and have a seat. I am the second person in the office at this time. The office starts to get busy, and I guess the receptionist forgets to fully check me in. I am watching as people who came in after me walk in and out of the office. I overhear the receptionist realize she forgot to check me in completely, but it's okay because she is trying to explain to the nurses that I am really not late for my appointment. It's now around 9:00 am and a nurse named Barbara comes out and I overhear her tell the receptionist that I am going to have to wait because i missed my appointment. The reception says to Barbara it was literally her fault and Barbara is not trying to hear it. I approach the reception desk and explain it is impossible for me to reschedule and I cannot wait to be seen because I work the midnight shift and I am due back at work in a couple of hours. So, if I must be rescheduled, I need a note for work stating that it's their mix up for the rescheduling and not mine. Barbara in a nasty tone state " I need a note to reschedule basically because I was 30 minutes late why?" I explain to Barbara that I was there at 8:22 and I overheard the receptionist tell her that it's clearly her mistake because she forgot to complete the checking. Unfortunately, I have been going to this office for years. I have always had a good experience never had anything bad to say about the staff at this office. Nurse Barbara Optum needs to send you to a sensitivity training you are very rude. A part of being a nurse is being to understand your patients and to have patience.

Optum is affiliated with a Financial Company (Optum Financial) that makes a profit as part of payment of claims. I have tried to streamline the electronic claim process and this company seems to have no incentive to support providers of health services. Another reason capitalizing Health Care for profit is a bad idea!

Absolutely terrible company. I have been billed incorrectly so many times. Bills come 6-9 months after service. On hold just to argue with reps who don’t understand the claims. They hold old insurance info on file and don’t update it even after calling to do so, or refusing to hold payment information from manufacturers on file and insisting that I need to call and correct for every bill! They still can’t get the cost support from manufacturer of prescriptions correct and have been incorrectly billing me for more than two years. Just the worst experience. I am going to file a complaint to regulatory agencies and write to my representatives about this awful company.

I loved the practice when it was Murray Hill Medical and then Caremount. Optum is a nightmare and I will be seeking compassionate health care elsewhere. Wonderful, caring physicians are leaving because the new management has made the environment so toxic. Are MBA's running Optum? They are driving it into the ground. So sad!

I decided to try virtual primary care, through United Healthcares website. Everything about the experience was a fail. After bloodwork and agreeing to refill thyroid meds for a year, if they were in range...the provider didn't even refill once. I was able to email to remind, refilled after reminder (i didnt notice until i was out it was only for 90 days, 0 refills), now they dr is demanding I be seen again for another 3 month supply. I've taken levothyroxine for 14 years and NEVER have I had to pay every 3 months to see a dr for a refill. The protocol is yearly bloodwork to make sure thyroid is in range, then perscription for 1 year. This is not health care, ITS A MONEY GRAB.

The date on this review reflects only one contact, not the many I have had with Optum. Optum took over management of the provider network in Pasadena in January 2023. Immediately the healthcare delivery system crashed. My doctor's office is so understaffed, it took me three months to get an appointment even though I had an emergent health issue. Appointments have been cancelled by the doctor and I had to see and communicate with a Physician's Asst. I can no longer get a quick phone call or telehealth appointment. My longtime PCP is gone and I have not seen, spoken with, or chatted with a doctor in more than a year-and-a-half. The staff, which had always been polite and helpful are now obviously stressed and increasingly unhelpful and cranky. All of these problems came up after Optum took over. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to deal with Optum. I sincerely hope this arrangement does not last very long.
