Communication lacking
As a 25+ year professional in the building trades, I have come to expect (and depend on) a certain level of professionalism with the vendors I work with. I was very disappointed with the service & communication at Nick's Building. While friendly, Customer Service didn't seem to have the information needed to adequately address questions (i.e. lead times, order status, etc.), nor do they seem motivated to actually address concerns. I also felt rather insignificant when I was told my order was "small", and that they typically dealt with orders much larger than my $6000 order. These are specific issues we had with our most recent order: 1) Initially told our order would take 3-4 weeks. It actually took double that lead time, causing a month long delay on our job. 2) After the 3 weeks passed, I called weekly to check on the order status. I never actually received a clear answer as to what was happening with our order, nor why it was taking much longer than originally estimated. 3) As I ordered pre-finished doors, the order was sent to "the stainer" after the doors were constructed. The stainer is a separate business, apparently located a few blocks away from Nick's & not affiliated with Nick's. Once our order reached "the stainer", we were instructed to direct all questions/communications to "the stainer". Communication via "the stainer" was less than stellar as well. Most frustrating was the lack of return calls for status updates. Dealing with "the stainer" was particularly frustrating. As I placed my order with Nick's, I expected all my communication to go through Nick's and NOT be passed off to a sub-contractor to fend for myself. The product and stain finish were up to expectations. Having now placed 2 orders with Nick's, I feel that my experience is "business as usual" for Nick's. I will be unable to place further orders with them, unless timing is not an issue. If you are a contractor or a homeowner who needs to maintain a timeline for your job, Nick's may not be the best choice.
