This is a prime example of awful user experience.
Let's start with the website itself. If I taught a UX design class, this site would be the first example I'd give of what not to do. Right off the bat, the first time you spin up this site, it looks like a phishing site that is trying to steal your identity. The only TD Bank logo is in the footer which you won't even see if you are on a mobile device. Hilariously, I posted a link to a friend so we could laugh at it together and the link pulled through the meta data from the page and the meta description is literally "Description here." They didn't even bother putting in any kind of description. That takes like 5 seconds to do. "TD Bank Retail Card Account Management Site" There did it for you... copy and paste. Next, assuming you get over your suspicions that this site is not legit you click "Log In" and it takes you to an entirely different URL. Noooo TD Bank, that doesn't look untrustworthy AT ALL. On this new site where you login, there is finally a TD logo in the upper left in the header but it's tiny and not immediately identifiable. TD Bank is worth ~150B, that's B for Billion. I've seen better websites churned out by 6th graders on nothing but capri suns and a free hobby dyno on heroku. Now let's talk about the service. So you've logged in and finally see the beauty which is an account management interface that hasn't been updated in 20 years except to add a really annoying 2FA process to the login. Probably only added so they could meet some baseline compliance put on them. You will also enjoy the beauty of being charged a late fee that was assessed before they even sent you the first statement to set up the account. Yes, that's right, I got a late fee from before I even had my first due date somehow. When I called them out on it, they sent me a message suggesting they're doing me a one time favor of removing the late fee. Gee, how magnanimous of you oh lord TD Bank, you are so beneficent. So wise and all knowing that you are correcting your mistake while making me feel like I still did something wrong. Get wrecked... I still can't believe they sent me that. I mean, I know it's an auto-reply but the whole thing just smacks of zero f's to give. On top of that, I only bought two items and yet they show 3 line items having been charged to my account. That would be fine except the line items are not described in any way shape or form on their statements. You could argue that it's on the retailer to do that but also... IT'S TD BANK'S SERVICE. They could easily enforce a rule for descriptive line items. It isn't hard to do... could be automated with just the most basic pattern checking code. How the hell are you supposed to know what each charge represents if you made more than a couple purchases? I still haven't heard their explanation for the 3rd charge. I'm sure it's going to be garbage. Just avoid using this service at all cost. You're better off just sticking the purchase on a regular credit card from somewhere else and eating the interest or use a service like Affirm or whatever to finance things. Raymour and Flanagan... if you see this, you have to dump TD. I will never buy furniture from you again either way because this was just so miserable a process that I don't care to support your business. You gotta break up with these clowns. -- Update 6/10/22 -- I've recently reported them for dark pattern usage to my state's AG and I would encourage everyone here who has left a terrible review to do the same. It's absolutely ridiculous that on the 2FA code entry screen, you get an error message that suggests the site is not functioning. This is intentional to make you think you can't make a payment and they hope you'll forget so they can hit you with a late fee. It's so blatant and disgusting. Additionally, if you ignore the error and use your 2FA code, God help you if you're on a mobile device. There's a pop-up when you try to set up automatic payments that runs off the screen. You can't read it or dismiss it. Literally this is SUCH an easy thing to code. I have built hundreds of responsive friendly pop-ups. IT IS NOT HARD. I could teach a 5 year old how to do it. It is so obviously another dark pattern meant to screw you over. I have reported this to my AG and also at the Dark Patterns tip line for public shaming: darkpatternstipline . org
