Mutual of Omaha is a bad choice for dental insurance
I have dental insurance with this company and have several complaints about how they conduct their dental insurance business: 1) I dislike how they require appeals to be submitted in the mail versus accepting appeals via fax or email. This takes a lot longer to process appeals. 2) I disagree with how they require a security code to login to online accounts, if 8 hours has passed since your last login. 3) For the date of service on January 13, 2026 at a network dentist, which date was in my second year of coverage, they applied a 20% coinsurance reimbursement, instead of the correct 50% coinsurance reimbursement on a Level III service - Periondal Maintenance. 4) For the same date of service of January 13th in item #3, they did not approve the costs for some x-rays, even though these are 100% reimbursed as Preventive Services. 5) For the date of service of February 2, 2026 at a different network dental provider University of Michigan Dental School (UMDS) they failed again to approve an x-ray for a problem area, that was done to prepare me for a root canal. They claimed that the x-ray wasn't covered because of some limitation mentioned in my contract, but I did not see any legitimate limitation that gave them permission to deny this cost. Fortunately, I filed an appeal with them, but they denied my appeal at both Level 1 and Level 2. Therefore, I filed an appeal with the MI Department of Financial and Insurance Services, and was able to get the MOO denial reversed. 6) Mutual of Omaha gives very bad email customer service, such as not answering specific questions and not putting a person's name on the Closing of their messages. They just say things like "Thank You" or "Regards" but don't add any name. That is cowardice, in my opinion. That is an example of not taking responsibility for things they say to customers. I don't recommend anyone choose Mutual of Omaha for dental insurance, unless you want to get ripped off.
