The only fraud here is by Mile Auto
When my debit card expired, I called and provided them the new number. They ended up adding my card to someone else's policy, cancelling mine and sending the notification to the wrong address. They refuse to work with me in solving the issue, and insist that I need to deal with the incident as fraud through my bank.
Edit: The problem absolutely was not "immediately corrected once it was brought to our attention" as claimed below, but publicly complaining about problems appears to be your best hope if the company does make an error that they otherwise refuse to fix. A one star review here (and a BBB complaint) were more effective than two weeks worth of phone calls.

Dear Michael - we goofed, and sincerely apologize for our mistake. You are correct that our billing system inaccurately applied your payment to the wrong account; it was immediately corrected once it was brought to our attention. By now, this error should have been fully corrected, misdirected payments refunded, and now applied correctly. We are truly sorry for the concern and frustration caused by our error. Thank you for being part of the Mile Auto family, and for your understanding. If there is anything of further concern in this regard, please reach out to us at [email protected]. Thank you, Michael. -Mile Auto Customer Success

“Allegedly”
According to Mile autos “highest support member” who allegedly makes all the rules. I’d say this company isn’t worth time or interest.
I’m highly dissatisfied with the customer service which is virtually non existent. Moreover at the implication of retaliation for having personally disagreed with your “highest support manager” very unprofessional.

Totally expensive premium.
This company rate changes based on the mileage you driving. First month low premium and chares much more if you drive more mileage than the first month. I canceled the policy but they still charged fee about half of premium. Actually this company was more expensive than major company. I would never go back to this company and totally not recommend.

Hi Sue - Mile Auto is a pay-per-mile car insurance company, and charges for the miles our customers actually drive each month. If you are not a low mileage driver, traditional insurance would be a better fit. But, for the tens of thousands of drivers across the country who trust Mile Auto for their low-mileage driving, it's a perfect fit. Higher mileage drivers should stick with traditional insurance companies that tend to overcharge lower mileage drivers. Thanks for giving Mile Auto a try. -Mile Auto Customer Success

Buyer beware they charge based on how many miles you drive
Response from Mile AutoApr 23, 2026
Hello Solomon - we received your review on Trustpilot. Mile Auto is a pay-per-mile auto insurer - and thus our entire business model is to charge based on how many miles you drive. It is intended for low mileage drivers. Unfortunately, it appears that it didn't work our for you. But, it works perfectly for tens of thousands of drivers across the USA who trust us with the auto insurance needs. We hope you've found insurance more suitable for the miles you drive. -Mile Auto Customer Success

Mile Auto insurance is a SCAM, drove 38 miles, cost $55
Mile Auto insurance is a SCAM. DO NOT waste your time with this company. My 1999 Ford Truck was driven 38 miles in a month, and the insurance premium was $55. I'm retired with a PERFECT driving record.
How did they raise the $16 base charge, plus the 57 cent mileage charge up to $55? They added these HIDDEN FEES:
Anti Theft Fee $2.50
Installment Fee $5.00
Mileage Data Capture Fee $6.00
Policy Administration Fee $25.00
There is nothing in their signup papers about a $25/month "policy administration fee".
Also, since you have to email a picture of your odometer every month, so they can figure out the mileage cost, every policy will be charged the $5.00 "installment fee".
EVEN WORSE... They only give you THREE DAYS to email your odometer photo, or they charge you for 2.000 miles that month, with a huge mileage fee.
That happened to me once, since I HAD two cars insured by Mile Auto, and each odometer photo is due on a different date.
This company is a 100% SCAM! They ADD FEES, until your cost EXACTLY equals a real insurance company, like progressive or E-surance.
It is so much hassle and worry to sign up (only over the phone - no online anything!), then have to worry if you missed your three day window for the odometer photo.
It sounds great, only pay 15 cents per mile that you drive in a month... then where the H#LL did the other fees come from, so your cost EXACTLY EQUALS a REAL INSURANCE company!?!?!?!?!?!
I'm in a rage about being ripped off, after all this time and effort to sign up, and send in all these odometer photos.
Please DO NOT waste your time, thinking you will save a DIME with this scammer "Mile Auto".
I would attach a photo of the 38 miles driven/$55 monthly bill, if I could, but I can't using this browser. P.S. The more sporty cars, like 2009 Honda Accord, have a monthly "base charge" of $26, WITH the other fees added on top. So, there is no way to win with this company

Dear Mr. Farm Guy – we’ve read your review on Trustpilot, and also examined your records in our system. Thank you for trusting us with your car insurance for two consecutive 6-month terms. Unlike most traditional insurance companies, we choose to clearly disclose all charges in our monthly statements whereas other insurers hide those charges in their monthly invoices. You are correct that we charge an anti-theft fee (required by the State of Texas), along with installment fees, mileage capture fees and policy administration fees. We believe in transparency and full disclosure for our customers.
As you experienced during each of the 12 months you were insured by Mile Auto, we do require monthly odometer photos as that is how we are able to charge our low-mileage customers for the miles they actually drive. If a customer fails to submit an odometer image, they are charged for 40 miles per day for the prior month. Once an image is finally submitted, a credit is issued for any overpayment if the mileage is less. For each of the twelve months you were insured by Mile Auto, you submitted your odometer images and saw how our systems operated and how your monthly statements were created.
With each of our customers, rates are developed using traditional insurance underwriting criteria, and then the insurance costs are divided into a fixed base monthly rate and a per mile charge. Rates vary for each customer depending on their vehicle, driving history, claims history, etc. Low-mileage customers can typically save hundreds per year compared with traditional “all-you-can-eat” insurance.
We regret that you feel like Mile Auto is a “scam.” We can assure you that the thousands of customers who have been insured by Mile Auto for millions of miles would not agree.
In the event you wish to discuss your experience further, feel free to email us at: [email protected].

I recently moved from Georgia to…
I recently moved from Georgia to Tennessee. I had questions on my policy which were not answered and the customer service person was rude. When I asked for a supervisor, I was told that they do not have one. I called back and waited for 20 minutes with no supervisor. So, I called the next day and asked again. Again, I was initially refused. I stated this is enough so after about 15 minutes, another rude person came on the line by the name of Elana. She stated that she was the customer service manager. Due to her rudeness I asked who her supervisor was and she told me that it was the President of the company. I have had mile auto for a few years and never had this type of customer service. I needed a new policy but I would NEVER use this company again and cancelled the next day after I bought from another company.
No one should ever have to spend their hard earned money with a company that does not appreciate a customer. Other insurance companies do!!!!

Charged excessive
WTF This 700.00 charged this month what's a ripped off. Charged excessive. Charged arm and legs. Disappointed with mile auto. Check my Google reviews. Dam sh*t.
Response from Mile AutoMar 20, 2026
Hello Binhminh - we have reviewed your Trustpilot review and researched your account. First of all, we appreciate you being a long-term member of the Mile Auto family. We see that our system did not receive your mileage reading for the most recent month, so our Customer Care team is attempting to reach you by phone and email to get that odometer reading in order to adjust your payment accordingly. Just for the record, our monthly invoices reflect the miles actually driven in the prior month. If we do not receive a reading, our system automatically generates a "default charge" for 40 miles per day. Once that happens, when a customer reaches out, that can immediately be corrected to reflect a charge for the actual miles driven. We look forward to taking care of this situation for you. Thanks very much. -Mile Auto Customer Success
