AVOID Merrell Boots. They leak, fall apart and Customer Service evades responsibility
If you want durable hiking boots, do not buy Merrell. They make shoes only fit for walking a dog round the local park. I am amazed, reading the other reviews about Merrell and in particular Moab boots. I have had EXACTLY the same experience: -Leak like a sieve - Not waterproof at all - Fall apart after only a few wears - Customer Service just tries to wriggle out of any responsibility. Here's my story: Merrell Boots not living up to one of the core values - Durability. On June 30th 2018 I bought my 17-year-old son some Merrell Moab Walking Boots so that he could complete his Gold DofE expedition. In the 17 months since the boots have been worn no more than 20 days hiking. They have been cleaned and dried after every outing, and regularly sprayed with Nikwax. In January my son is heading for a charity volunteering period in Nepal. He planned to take his boots with him. And to raise money for his charity, we started the 177-mile Offas Dyke trail two weeks ago. After 5 days, his boots were leaking badly, and one of them the upper had separated from the sole.He had to abandon his walk, return home, buy new boots (not Merrell) and then restart his walk. I raised this with Merrell. I have shared photos of the boots, bought from Go Outdoors; I have shared stock numbers. But sadly I don't have a receipt, but I can show the credit card transaction on my statement. Merrel has been singularly unhelpful. They have said that the boots are an old model that they stopped making in 2016. They have effectively accused me of lying about when I bought the boots. It looks like Go Outdoors sold me old stock. I have pointed out that, while in 2018 my son had size 11 ft, in 2016, when they said I bought the boots, he was 14 yrs old with size 7 feet. So why would I have bought size 11 boots?? Merrell have also pointed out that they have a 1-year warranty. I am not claiming under warranty. I am claiming that boots that do not last more than 20 wears were not fit for purpose or of merchantable quality. If you want durable hiking boots, do not buy Merrell. They make shoes only fit for walking a dog round the local park
