I purchased what I thought was a new chair from madisonseating, turns out it was an open-box. No big deal I thought I’ll just return it and buy a new one. NOPE, despite the fact that they say they have a 30 day 100% money back guarantee, this chair was a final sale and could not be returned. To add insult to injury, one of the arms was broken as well.
NEVER BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. They will jerk you around and not help you resolve your issues. I wish I would have read reviews before I sent them a single dollar.
UPDATE: within minutes madisonseating sent me

unbelievably rude and unprofessional
The chair arrived broken, so we have to contact them. Their management is very, very unprofessional and rude. They were not responsive on essential matters and they kept sending rude messages with lots of threats. After we returned the chair, they refused to confirm that they received it... I cannot imagine how horrible service they provided! I will never do business with them again.

This customer engaged in unethical behavior by first trying to keep the product for free, then attempting to force us to apply an additional credit that was unwarranted. The item arrived in perfect condition.

Name Brands but Fundamentally Altered. Poor Quality Refurbishments
I have ordered several chairs from MadisonSeating over the past several years. YOU MUST KNOW that when you do business with a grey market company like this, you will get products with a name brand but THEY ARE NOT NEARLY THE QUALITY OF the same chair new from the factory. THey try to promote the furniture as having shipping damage and imperfections but they fundamentally alter the furniture. SPECIFIC CASE IN POINT: I purchased 4 Steelcase Criterion Chairs from them. The armrest were cheap replacement parts with a cheap plastic covers. THIS IS NOT A REAL CRITERION. THEY HAVE WELDED THE PARTS TOGETHER SO THEY CANNOT BE REPAIRED. These are the ONLY chairs that I have ever purchased that had the casters fall off. They use CHEAP Replacement Parts, WELD THEM IN PLACE so when they break, they cannot be repaired. This is practically fraud.
HOw the Better Business BUreau can rate them an A+ makes the BBB a fraud too.
I bought several chairs from Madison because I hadn't had a problem. They DO reupholster your name brand stuff in a low quality fabric but because I believed in the underlying skelton of the chair, I bought from them. But when the chairs cannot be repaired, maybe because the the name brands don't use generic parts, they weld the parts in. But cheap parts break and when you can't replace them like you could with an original, unaltered chair, THAT'S wrong. You know what else is wrong: 1) writing me an email saying "since you went to social media [i.e., TrustPilot] we can no longer help you" This was AFTER I had sent 4 e-mails asking them for help. 2) They initially had this review as "not a true customer experience" and I had to send my MadisonSeating purchase documents to TrustPilot before they would re-post the review. I had to do this AFTER I has just exchanged emails and those same documents just days before I posted on TrustPilot.
I was not asking for a free replacement for something broken out of warranty. I was asking for a refund because the item I bought was altered to be un-repairable. The original chair was constructed to be repairable.

This reviewer is providing inaccurate and false information about our company. In fact, he regularly contradicts himself in the review. If our company was selling sub par products then why has he continuously purchased from Madisonseating over the past few years? Why would the reviewer come back time and time again to purchase additional chairs for his company? The reviewer is unhappy that we would not send a free replacement for a chair he has been using for several years that now requires servicing due to being misused in his facility. This review is factually untrue and is being used as a means to try and get our company to send him free merchandise. Shameful

HORRIBLE service if you ever need warranty repairs
HORRIBLE service if you ever need anything fixed under the "10 year warranty"
They wanted me to spend over $200 in packing and shipping costs to get a $16.00 bolt replaced on a chair I received less than 9 months ago for just under $600. When I very professionally called them out about this and showed them a link to the part with a price of $15.50 per bolt on Amazon.com they tried saying their supposed cost for one bolt was $24.99 plus shipping and gave that to me as my only other option. I replied back asking about the items they had offered to sell me "at cost" that WERE SUPPOSEDLY COVERED UNDER THEIR "WARRANTY" but they continued to be rude and ignored my questions. They even blocked me on Facebook when I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Here I am paying over $40 out of my pocket and repairing on my own for something covered under a warranty. By the way, the response from Madisonseating.com below is a slander. The part broke because someone used excessive force to install the bolt prior to shipping the chair to me (manufacturer recommends 180 inch lbs of torque to be used and it took almost 100 FOOT lbs of torque to remove the bolt for repair).

This customer purchased and received a brand name chair in excellent condition. John E has been using his chair for almost a year and accidentally broke the item. We offered to repair the chair for him but he kept insisting we make courtesies for him that was not part of our warranty terms. When we told him this could not be done, he threatened to write these negative and dishonest reviews. Our company will not give in to this type of blackmail. In this day and age it appears that anyone with access to the internet feels they have the power to coerce people and companies to give in to their demands, no matter how ridiculous.

I bought a Herman Miller Celle chair…
I bought a Herman Miller Celle chair from Madison... for 329$
Don't by this chair. It does not in my opinion come close to what Madison says. And if you live any distances from their New York locations... Don't bother buying from them, because you will spend a lot of money if you wanted to ship it back to Madison.
The issue I had with the chair was that the only adjustment that it has is for height. In reading their description here below. I was lead to believe that this chair would be something a lot more adjustable then it really is.
The Celle chair fits 95% of the North American population—tall and short, slim and not-so-slim. And you still have a full range of adjustment controls at your fingertips. So you can make the seat higher or lower, move the armrests, control the tilt tension—personalize the chair to fit the way you want to feel."
So when someone reads that it gives the impression that this chair would have more then just a height adjustment available for the user of this chair.
I got the chair, I found that you cannot adjust the arms, the seat cushion was very thin. I tried to sit in it for 30 minutes. Very uncomfortable.
So I contacted Madison... they told me that the chair had fixed arms and that is what I ordered. And parroted below what the features were on this specific chair.
Features:
Intelligently Pliable ???
Upholstered Back Not upholstered
Human-Centered Design ???
Adjustable and Adaptable Only adjustment is Height.
Pneumatic Height Adjustment -True
Fixed Arms True
Tilt Tension & Limiter - A spinning knob that is on the lower front of the chair that does nothing.
In the same email they touted that their priority is Customer Service and reminded me that I had a 30 day money back policy.
They informed me that I would have to ship this chair back and incur shipping costs and a 50$ restocking fee.
So I checked UPS 272$ to ship, FedEx 358$ to ship. So I emailed Madison seating. I paid 329$ for this chair. Shipping it back at these prices would nullify any refund.
I asked for a discounted shipping label from them. They ignored that request. Since business who ship in volume tend to get discounts.
So I asked them to fix their web page description of this chair, because if they are telling people at the time of the description that the chair has the ability to "...move the armrests, control the tilt tension—personalize the chair to fit the way you want to feel."
This detail above appears to be something from Herman Miller and seems to be misleading and does not accurately reflect the actual chair and lack of adjustments that are available on this model.
They emailed me back
At this time we must successfully ask that all further communication regarding this transaction remain via email only for our records.
They are very unwilling to work with me. So I filed a complaint with the New York BBB.org because they have two different messages on the description of this chair on their web page.
Their response that I was threatening. I guess after being sued by Herman Miller in 2015, my use of the word "misleading" as to their website description on this model of chair, appears to threatening.
Google search for Herman Miller sues Madison Seating , you will find a article from M Live in Michigan where Herman Miller went after Madison Seating for selling used chairs as new. They settled the case.
So I got stuck with a bad purchase, an uncomfortable chair, and my options with Madison are severely limited. Spend the purchase price on shipping it back.
I went to the Herman Miller Website, this is clearly not the same chair that Herman Miller lists currently.
Herman Miller
List price: $1,079.99
$329.11 You save: $750.88 (70%)
Not sure where Madison gets their list price info.
When I examined the chair there were no factory labels, model info or part numbers on this chair. The only indication Herman Miller was in the plastic back of the chair.
So with no apologies to Madison seating - they can ship it.
I can buy elsewhere. Because even Staples can offer a more comfortable chair and much better service.
Maybe someone from Herman Miller can review Madison Seating website and practices.
Because I am done with Madison, and I sold the chair at less of a loss then if I shipped it back.

NEVER BUY from this site..
First of all, it looks like every product they are shipping have a damage. We also received our chair but it is damaged. We reached out to them and yes they are responsive to your questions. they started negotiating to keep the damaged chair. What can we do with damaged chair. Hence we requested to send a new chair as the intention behind buying was to get a chair. They said they dont have any more chairs and asked to ship this damaged chair back. For that, they sent a shipping label which has incorrect trackingid to schedule fedex shipment. When we asked for correct tracking id, the response is to go and drop in a location nearby. I still have my chair and i have no trust if they even refund my money when they receive the item. On top of all the nuisance and we are wasting our time back and forth with them for nothing as they dont have any more new chair to ship back to us.

MADISONSEATING STANDS BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT 100%. WE SHIP THOUSANDS OF CHAIRS WEEKLY THAT ARE THOROUGHLY INSPECTED AND PACKAGED WELL BEFORE RELEASE. Unfortunately, we cannot control some of the mishandling that occurs by various carriers we use to make deliveries. However, if any shipments incur carrier damage from transit we immediately pick up and replace the item free of charge. As you can see by the other reviews, we take immediate action and issue a satisfactory resolve when it comes to carrier related damages or any customer service issues.

We bought a chair
We bought a chair, it took longer than the 10-14 days to receive it. When we got it, it wasn't what we thought it would be. To return, they make you pay a $50 restocking fee and the entire shippping.. They don't even offer you a corporate shipping label (which even if you paid, would be substantially less, and no cost to them.) Apparently once they have your money, they don't care about your experience. Would never use them again.
