I published on KDP from 2016 to Jan 2024. Now many things don't work (like trying to get a proof AFTER they approved by softcover and after a day I still have no email with a link. No telephone # to call anywhere (when they used to have support staff). I guess their owner needs more $ and so cut costs... I'm reconsidering IngramSpark and other platforms.

Amazon KDP support gave inconsistent, unhelpful answers to a real system error Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) is Amazon's self-publishing platform, where authors upload and manage their own books for sale. I ran into an error where Amazon KDP kept saying my book's Publisher name didn't match, even though it was entered exactly as registered with Bowker, the official ISBN registration agency for the US. When I contacted Amazon KDP support through their chat, the first agent told me to simply re-enter the ISBN, which I had already done multiple times. A second agent said Amazon KDP can take up to 5 days to sync data from Bowker — but this problem had already been going on for several days before I spoke with her, something she didn't address. She ended the chat by confirming "yes, wait 5 days" with no further explanation offered. I've since opened a formal support case through Amazon KDP's Message Center and am waiting on a real response. For a platform that authors rely on to actually get their books published, this kind of unresponsive, repetitive support during a publication-blocking error is concerning — especially for anyone considering Amazon KDP as their publishing platform for the first time.

Would rate a zero if that was a possibility. Went through the process with them and got to the point where my id had to be verified. From other complaints their verification process is intended to fail causing everything that was paid to that point to be be lost. What did useless support say? Create another account with a different email. How stupid? The id verification will fail again. Complete scam.

Authors should be able to test a book quickly and improve it if necessary. However, Amazon takes way too much time to approve it. Why not split the process into two phases? First, a testing phase where the book can be opened to a limited number of people. Then, the production phase, after validating that the book actually has a market. Only at that point should we worry about how the book is presented and its compliance with the platform's guidelines.

Like many here my Amazon retail account was terminated with no way to appeal and can't access books I'm selling on the Amazon KDP dashboard. I can't access or get paid for the books I have listed. My account was terminated for no explanation other than "unusual activity." Whatever that means. Most frustrating is the email states you can't appeal, and customer service can't help. Extremely frustrating and many hours poured into books I wrote. My account is terminated and I have no way to appeal a decision not clearly defined. No customer service and they can't even discuss the matter with you on the retail account. *** Update: My account is terminated but I was able to open a new account with Kindle and transfer the books to the new account. Customer service in retail doesn't work at all. The Kindle customer service can be reached by bot chat asking for a human rep. They walked me through how to transfer the account after setting up the new W9 tax information and new account. There are many steps and a little complicated but can be done contacting Kindle customer service and not Amazon retail.
