I have a halo 5. Although it is very expensive, it is a great product. Very reliable.
My issue is with customer service. Some screws came out and I ordered replacements. Within 12 hours I found I could buy them at a local hardware store. I had placed my order on Saturday night and wanted to cancel Sunday morning. Not only could I not cancel online, I had to video chat with a person, which was irritating because it took way too much of my time for something really insignificant, but I was informed that on a Sunday morning, less than 12 hours after my order it was already in processing and I would have to accept it and send it back. Baloney. There is no way someone is working on that on a Sunday morning. It’s a real pain that I have to physically spend time to do something that someone could fix with the click of a mouse. Get your act together.

Works Great, but There Are Some Important Drawbacks to Consider
We purchased our Halo 3 Collar in March 2024 after our troublemaking dog led to a few unexpected vet bills. After using Halo for more than two years, I wanted to share our experience.
First, the system itself works very well. We take it everywhere and love how effectively the virtual fence functions. We're also a big fan of the remote beacons for quick recall. My rating is based primarily on the collar’s durability and longevity, not its core functionality.
Collar durability:
After about seven months, the original collar’s battery began draining very quickly, lasting only six or seven hours on a full charge. Shortly afterward, the front indicator light stopped working entirely. Halo’s customer service was great and replaced the collar under warranty.
Unfortunately, about 16 months after receiving the replacement, it suddenly shut off and never turned back on. Halo was again very helpful in troubleshooting and even sent us a new charger. We left it charging on and off for a couple of days, during which it would randomly turn back on and then shut off again. Eventually, the app displayed a “Motion sensor issue” notification warning that the collar could no longer track reliably and should not be used. Our only remaining option is to purchase another collar.
Considering how expensive the collar is, I’m disappointed that neither unit lasted much longer than one to two years. I would expect a product at this price point to have better longevity.
Limitations in remote areas:
We live in a very remote area without cell service, so our setup relies entirely on Wi-Fi. As advertised, the virtual fence continues to work without cellular service. However, once our dog leaves Wi-Fi range, we can no longer track his location. We can only see where he may have reached the fence after he returns to Wi-Fi range. That makes the tracking feature much less useful for us.
The app also cannot be opened without Wi-Fi or cellular service. We don’t always know in advance exactly where we’ll need to create a fence, so it’s frustrating that we cannot manually set one up while offline.
Overall, Halo’s virtual fence works extremely well, and its customer service has been excellent. We still highly recommend it and have even convinced several family members to purchase one as well. However, potential buyers should be aware of the collar’s possible longevity issues and the app’s offline limitations, as they may lead to additional expenses or inconvenience over time.

It is inconceivable to me that you can…
It is inconceivable to me that you can spend close to $600 on a dog collar that does not include the charging brick. This is a very cheap and inconvenient oversight. If they need to be charged then they should have the charging brick.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we truly appreciate it. We understand how frustrating it can be to expect a wall block to be included and not see one in the box. While many customers have wall blocks from other products, we understand that this may not be convenient for everyone.
We'd love the chance to connect so we can discuss further and offer support moving forward.

Got the halo 5 collar
Got the halo 5 collar as gift. They won't let you write a review on Amazon unless you actually purchased it so I'm writing one here. I've had it for a week now. The first day I was staying with a friend and they have good cell service where they're at. It worked great and I was very pleased. The real test was going to be my home though. I live in a rural area. The cell service isn't great, lots of dead zones in the neighborhood, absolutely no service inside the house. The second day we tested it at home and it did great again. His location was spot on, my location is a bit off though. It gave great updates. But once we step inside the house it lost all connection, even when connected to Wi-Fi. After day 2 it stopped being as accurate. I've had to edit my fence line because it'll say he's on the line even though he's not even close. I've noticed this happens mostly in the areas with thick trees on the line. It can't find his location very well if he's under thick, big trees. Which is a bummer because we have a lot of those in the PNW and many trails we hike have thick tree canopies. A lot of the time it'll lose his location completely if he's under them. If I'm paying $180/year for the service I'd expect it to work better.
The app is ok. I'm still getting used to it. There's one part that tells you "ready to use" "whistle only....." "Tracking" it changed the update frequently when he's wearing it but I can't see what it's saying if there's more than 2 words or gets blocked by something. I do appreciate being able to turn off and on the fences. But I'll need to get used to remembering to turn it off when we leave the house.
I haven't put the prongs in yet because we're still trying to figure out the best fence lines. So it only beeps and whistles for now. I worked with him a bit with a regular e collar as a"test run" to see if he'd even respond to the halo collar before making such a big purchase. So he was already used to the beep meaning he needs to come back or move away.
The battery life is only 24hrs NOT 48 like all the ads say. Once I take the collar off the charger it'll say how many hours are left for use. 20 minutes of use can use up 3-5% of bettery.
The collar is nice. Feels sturdy. Has survived heavy rain so far. Wish it came with a "D ring" to put his leash on if needed. I have to keep 2 collars on him just in case. It would also be nice if it came with different material options or the band and the cover. Velcro collects a lot of fur and it's a pain to get out.
You technically can use this like an training e-collar. You just press the button you want to use. Warning beep, vibrate, or static, or use whistle, and either custom noise. Would be easier if you had a little remote rather than having to pull out, open/unlock phone, open app (which can take a minute or 2 to load, then press the feature that lets you do the buttons. In some scenarios, seconds can be crucial.
For now I give 3 stars. For the price and extra payment packages I'd expect a better job of tracking and getting a signal under a tree or bush. I will update as I use it more and we become more experienced with the collar.

Company seems great, the collar leaves a little to be desired
Ultimately I'm glad I tried the Halo Collar, and assuming I get my full money back once the collar is received bacl I don't have anything bad to say about the company. That said, the collar did not work for me at all. I live in the suburbs pretty close to a city, where cell and GPS service is very strong, but the collar was constantly going out of service in the woods behind our home where I like to take my dog off leash. I could not use any of the features as advertised because the GPS service was so bad. I was worried about buying the collar because I also have a very small house lot, and they did say that the collar may not work as great if the fence is 20 feet or less from the house.... and they are correct. The collar was constantly beeping my dog and warning him when he was nowhere near the fence. I realized that even when I do the "find my phone" feature it never really knows where I am... and that was the case with the collar. It was constantly showing my dog nowhere close to where he actually was. I think the GPS is just really wonky in my little lakeside neighbhorhood with houses close together. My biggest complaint is they shouldn't advertise this for outdoor adventures if the GPS fails so often.

Good Honest Try
I bought two of these in Feb. Easy to set up and training was a breeze. App was user friendly and customer service very accessible. I began to have problems early on with one collar no longer being able to connect to WiFi. I had to troubleshoot at home and then they did on their end as well and it was determined the collar needed to replaced. I was sent one within a few weeks. A few more months go by and woke up to one collar being deactivated from my account without warning. Contacted customer service and on their end the collar had been determined unsafe and was shut off without warning. Again, I was shipped a replacement but still took over a week or more to get. There was no options for overnight shipping for these inconveniences. I live next to a busy highway and I could not leave my dogs without some sort of fence which were these collars. I had to take one dog to family and leave one inside during the wait times. My smaller dog, a dachshund, always had issues with the collar fitting right. The collar at its tightest looked like a doughnut around her neck even though it’s suppose to be smaller and universal size. I noticed throughout the day that the collar would loosen up. I was given replacement straps for free, the collar needed to be tightened every single morning and would be loose by end of day. One day she finally lost the collar as I’m sure she was able to slip it off her neck easily. I thought their gps would find it but found out that they can only track the collar of the dog is wearing it and it’s actively moving. I was given the option for halo care which would cost another $200. I declined as I felt like I had already had so many issues and phone calls with customer service all of which are documented. I let one dog stay at family again and ordered her a different brand collar. I put the other halo back on my dachshund and within a few months even though I was very diligent about tightening straps daily again over time she was able to slip it off and I even tracked it right to the middle of her boundary and was unable to locate it. Again, I was given the option of halo care and another $200. I can say I gave these an honest try and they worked really good, when they worked, but I was highly inconvenienced and left scrambling to find safe places for my dogs while waiting on new replacements multiple times. After the second one was lost and after a good 6 months of trying (Feb 2025-August 2025) I decided to switch to pet safes new version. I hope it can be more reliable. Sadly I still owe $1000 for collars I no longer can use. (Updated-I replied with the review details to be contacted by halo as requested and have not still-Sept 18)

We’ve been using the Halo collar for a…
We’ve been using the Halo collar for a year. While it has some great features, we’ve encountered a few issues. The fabric near the plastic window (where the brand name is displayed) is fraying, and the logo is nearly detached. We’ve also had to replace the prongs twice.
The collar’s response time—especially in critical moments when using the correction feature—is noticeably slow and not very intuitive. This delay can be frustrating when trying to alert our dog during emergencies, such as when he’s crossed a boundary and needs immediate redirection.
That said, the GPS tracking has been reliable, and we really appreciate the ability to monitor our dog’s location—especially when he ventures beyond the set boundaries. Our favorite feature is how easy it is to take the collar on the go. Being able to set up new boundaries effortlessly while traveling or moving between properties (like during vacations) has been a huge plus.

Can’t shut it off, always need power.
Very frustrating app. I am tech savvy and I was disappointed that settings for various features were not straightforward. Worse yet is the battery situation. If you don’t have access to power daily this collar is useless since there is not way to conserve power or shut it down.
