the idea of this collar is great, but it doesn't work
the idea of this collar is great. Invisible fences, gps locating, and it's a training collar. I did an immense amount of research before buying, but it just doesn't work the way it says it will. The problem is the connectivity. It just doesn't work. Even when I have full service on my cell phone, or if I'm on wifi, it is not reliable. The app takes forever to process the action you want to do (pinwheel of death), or if can't locate the collar (dog). We gave up and use a different collar now that works great. If Halo had a handheld remote to use, this would be a different story! So I'm selling mine cause it never works for us. Way too much money for this thing to never work.

Thank you for sharing feedback on your experience. We understand your frustration and would like to offer a bit of clarity regarding connectivity. The connection the collar relies on differs from your phone's cellular service, so performance may vary depending on coverage and signal strength in your area.
We would have welcomed the opportunity to work with you on troubleshooting and exploring whether any adjustments could have helped address these concerns. Our Support team is available 7 days a week, and we're always happy to help!

Save your money
These collars are a nice idea and about half of the price of an underground fence, but not worth the money we paid. They are inaccurate, it seems to take awhile to connect to wifi. My husband bought me these in hopes i could let my dogs out briefly while caring for our kids without having to worry with them, but thats not the case. Be prepared to stay out with them the entire time because it lags. When you pull up the app to send feedback it takes minutes to load- which isn't helpful in an emergency. Not to mention sometimes my dogs will be in our house far away from the boundary line but their collars beep and buzz them for no reason and randomly. My advice- either pay for an underground fence or save your money and continue taking them outside and staying with them.

Disappointing Reliability
Disappointing Reliability — Multiple Halo Collars Failed in Less Than Two Years
I have two dogs and originally purchased two Halo Collar 4 devices, expecting them to be a reliable, long-term investment.
Unfortunately, my experience has been extremely disappointing.
One of my original Halo 4 collars developed battery problems after just one month and had to be replaced under warranty.
Later, I was offered a free Halo Collar 5 as part of a testing program. Unfortunately, that collar was also defective, with battery life lasting less than half a day. When I reported the issue, I was told it could not be replaced because it was a test unit.
Fast forward to this week: one of my Halo 4 collars completely stopped charging and working. When I contacted Halo Support, I was told it was out of warranty and that nothing could be done. The collar is now practically useless.
Then, today, my other Halo 4 started experiencing serious charging problems. It no longer charges to 100%. Charging stops unexpectedly at different battery percentages, even though the device indicates that it is fully charged.
The bottom line is that both of my Halo 4 collars have failed in less than two years, and the Halo 5 I received also had serious battery problems.
I live on a farm, and I don’t know whether the outdoor environment contributes to these failures, but these collars are designed for dogs that spend time outdoors. I would expect them to withstand normal outdoor use.
Now I’m left with two dogs without reliable collars, and replacing both would cost me nearly $900, less than two years after my original investment.
I still have the defective Halo 5, and I may try to get it working again, but my confidence in these products has been seriously affected.
I understand that warranties have expiration dates, but premium products at this price point should last longer than this. Customers should not have to spend hundreds of dollars replacing collars every year or two simply because the batteries or charging systems fail.
I genuinely like the concept behind Halo, but the reliability, durability, and support for customers experiencing repeated hardware failures need significant improvement.
I hope Halo takes these concerns seriously and offers a reasonable solution for customers who have invested so much in their products.

Idea is great, execution not so much
Just passed the one year mark with a Halo.
Bottom line is that it's unreliable and buggy. It's so hit or miss, I just can't recommend it. They had a great idea but I guess it's not possible to really execute it well.
We live in an urban area, so I'm sure that's part of the problem. We want to keep our dog away from the driveway on the south and the fence on the north. He either doesn't get a warning at the right time or just blazes through it. He sometimes gets a correction when in the red zone, but sometimes not. He often gets warnings and corrections when well within the safe zone, and this is the worst thing of all to me. He was literally lying in his dog bed, smack dab in the middle of our safe zone, and I heard it beep him and shock him. Poor thing. How do you train a dog when the reinforcement is so random and mismatched to the behavior? We gave it a fair shake but unfortunately it really just doesn't work for us. Since we own it, we'll continue to use it while traveling to places where there is more land and fewer buildings. We've had better luck in those areas.

Under performs. Inconsistent between collars.
We bought two Halo 5 collars in the spring and have had several problems with inconsistent corrections with one collar in particular. We understand that the software update firmware (version 3.7) caused some issues with boundaries and did see improvement when the firmware was updated. The inconsistent warnings and recalls caused our dog to become nervous and anxious while out in our yard and in the house. He has been beeped while laying on the floor in our living room or bathroom, well within the boundaries and 20-30 feet within the boundary outside. The collar beeps and he runs up to us thinking he did something wrong. Our second dog/collar works almost seamlessly after the update. They were just both laying next to me sleeping and one collar beeped while the other collar performed correctly. I thought the software would correct itself with more wear from our dog and with time but after 3 months, I have lost confidence in the product and my dog has lost confidence in his training. We now take the collar off when he is inside but are putting it on and off constantly throughout the day so he can have the freedom to go in and outside, as the product boasts.

When the collar is fully functional and…
When the collar is fully functional and working properly, it is wonderful. Unfortunately, I’ve now had issues with two separate collars. For the first collar, I wasn’t even aware of the problem until the Halo team sent me an email stating they had noticed an issue and were sending me a replacement. It was purchased on June 27, 2025, and needed to be replaced by September 26, 2025. I thought it was no big deal because they recognized the issue and handled it quickly with little assistance or requirements from me as the customer. Once I received the replacement, I unlinked the old one, set up the new collar, and my dog was back off to the races.
I’m an active-duty soldier and travel a lot for my work, with my family assisting me in providing care for my dog. That being said, I returned from a military course last week (during which I wasn’t authorized to use my phone) and was informed that my dog had escaped and was almost struck by a vehicle. Initially, I was frustrated with my family, suspecting they had let the battery die because the app showed the collar hadn’t been charged. However, once I got home, I realized that the collar itself was the problem. I attempted to use a different cord, charging block, and power bank, but had no success getting the collar to charge. I reached out to the Halo team and started a warranty claim. They walked me through all the same steps but did ask that I attempt to clean the magnetic terminal, which I did.
Now, to the frustrating part that I want everyone to be aware of: instead of shipping me a replacement collar to ensure the safety of my dog, who is like family to me, they stated they had to send me a new charging kit first in an attempt to troubleshoot the issue. This means my dog will be without the safety of her collar for an even longer period, adding extensive costs to ensure her safety and care while I travel. When I kindly asked if they could send both the replacement collar and the charging kit, assuring them I would return whichever one wasn’t needed, they stated they couldn’t do that. I also inquired if they would assist with reimbursement for boarding her to ensure her safety while I travel.
Moreover, having experienced two issues with both collars I’ve received within a year, especially considering these collars cost over $500, and then dealing with customer service that doesn’t assist when you need it most is unacceptable. This is a no for me as a customer. Once I’m out of warranty and have another issue (which I now fully expect will happen) with their collar, I will be switching to a different brand. Be warned.

One of my halo collars just quit…
One of my halo collars just quit working after a little over a year. Wait times on the phone exceeded 2 hours to customer service. Attempted to contact someone in the dog park their virtual video help desk and after 5 different times with no one answering I became frustrated. For 500.00 collars you would think the company would have a more robust customer service team.

Good website experience and support, but product quality needs work
The ordering process on their website was smooth, and customer service was responsive. However, the product itself just doesn't hold up. Build quality feels cheap, and performance has been unreliable. If they could fix the quality issues, this would be a solid device. For now, it's hard to recommend.
