Morty
Husky that LOVES to RUN-OFF: NOT ANYMORE!! Best Investment!!
We have a Husky, Morty, who's 7- years old: had him since he was 10 weeks old. We live in an HOA with no fence... Morty is ALWAYS on a Leash. If he gets out the door on accident, he RUNS. Morty is extremely smart but he just loves to run, as he should! When my fiance said he was purchasing the Halo collar, I was skeptical and hesitant that it would work for "our dog". I read reviews from many sites... still, I was skeptical. I'm telling you... BUY IT!!! It's extremely EASY to use and Perfectly Effective! The app is stupid easy to use; I don't understand any of the reviews saying it's complicated. I did watch all of the training videos but honestly... my dog doesn't care about any of that. If you have a husky, you know they're extremely smart and "talk". But running is very difficult to prevent without a leash or fence. I ended up creating the fence (2- minutes), putting the collar on Morty, walked him along the boundary and Let Him Go! He Ran-Off...! Lol. I turned the shock up all the way and continued hitting it repeatedly to get him home. It didn't work. Luckily, Morty kept moving and eventually came home early morning on his own with the back door left open for him. Our fault was that we didn't move the fur out of the way and tighten the collar. Once we did that...lol... Morty left the yard and came back running and hoping all at once and yelping. It wasn't funny then, it scared the hell out of me actually...lol..it's a pretty funny memory NOW only because I know he's ok and I know he absolutely LOVES his collar. He learned very quickly that he doesn't get shocked when he's in the yard and he learned quickly to stay away from the area that "beeps"-- it's a very fast warning beep. I know the site says it's a "static" versus "shock", and while it is something different than a shock, it's still pretty close to a shock. Maybe an extended shock??? I've never felt an actual shock before. I did hold both prongs on the highest setting; it doesn't hurt At All (just a really Strong Tingle) but it sure wouldn't feel good against my neck. Of course you can always put the setting very low if you prefer. Morty doesn't get shocked because he never goes passed the beeping sound--and that's the point right? I took Morty to the park today-- NOW THIS EXPERIENCE MADE ME START POSTING REVIEWS!! I never write reviews but I want to help anyone that feels hesitant, as I did. I made videos AND called my fiance to tell him I would've paid Double (EASILY) had I been able to first test this on our dog for a week!! I created the fence at the park in literally less than a full minute, walked Morty along the boundary (which included access to the river), and I let him go. He LOVED IT!! I just can't express this enough-if you have the money, just BUY IT! If it doesn't seem to be working, tighten the collar. Remember the chokers we wore as teens? It should fit like that. The dog can still eat, drink water, etc without difficulty-so not to tight, but just tight enough. Put the prongs at the side of the neck, closer to the front of the neck than the back. The prongs should be touching the skin. This was the only mistake we made at first- therfore he didn't feel anything on day one. Prepare to be excited and ready to take your dog to the park, camping, etc because it's going to open a whole new list of options to start doing with your dog! Obviously you don't want to create a fence that surrounds a bunch of people if your dog will bite or jump on anyone. I took my dog down to the river where only one couple was present. I introduced them to Morty so he wouldn't feel the urge of seeing someone new to jump on. The collar is water proof and that was tested today--worked perfectly! I just created the boundary to extend to the other side of the river. Oh and the GPS on these things... AMAZING! The ONLY bad thing I could possibly say is that Morty does get shocked when he comes in through the front door even though our boundary surrounds both front and back yard to ensure the house is centered as a "safe" zone-- (so he doesn't get shocked while coming in and out). To solve this, we just use the back door or we turn the fence off if transferring him from the car to inside. A very small and careless issue considering all the amazing benefits! To be clear, he can go in the front yard and not get shocked... it's only AS he comes through the front door, for some reason. It's not enough of an issue for us to even try to fix. We just use common sense to work through the issue. --I wish I could personally call the people with negative reviews and offer advice. If not for my fiance, I wouldn't have purchased this and Morty would still be on a leash instead of being 100 times happier than he was-- which I didn't think was possible! I Can Not Wait To Take Morty Camping! Make sure your Entire house is INSIDE the safe zone! Common sense??? Read some of the negative reviews...
