Opened a business checking account and Grasshopper.charges $330 for a basic check book. Um no thanks I’ll go with someone else that's a huge red flag

Hi Matthew, Thank you for your review. As a digital bank, we are strong advocates of using technology to complete financial transactions online whenever possible. Many of our clients choose to send ACH payments or issue checks to vendors through digital services like Bill Pay, which can help streamline payments and reduce the need for traditional paper checkbooks. While complimentary checkbooks are not offered directly by us at this time, you are always welcome to order them through our preferred vendor, Harland Clarke, or any third-party provider of your choice. A member of our team has followed up to review the available options with you and ensure you’re selecting the most cost-effective offering available. We recognize that every business operates differently and this approach may be limiting, which is why we continuously evaluate how we can better serve our clients as their needs evolve. If you’re up for it, we would be happy to connect further to explore the payment tools that best align with your workflow. We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective and hope the vendor’s pricing does not detract from the broader digital experience we aim to deliver. We value your business and remain committed to earning your trust and providing the five-star experience you expect and deserve. Only Forward, Grasshopper Bank

In the initial email about the upgrade, it was stated that "we've moved your account to a new segment designed to offer shorter holds on your transactions". When I deposited a check thereafter, there wasn't any difference in the hold time noted. When I inquired about this, I was told that for deposits over $10,000, $6,725 would be available the next day. My account however showed that $725 was available the next day and the full amount deposited would be available after the standard hold time. The rep (Dionne) subsequently corrected this error.

Hi Paul, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand how frustrating it can be when expectations around account upgrades and funds availability do not immediately align, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We can confirm that your account upgrade was successfully applied, and you will benefit from expedited funds availability for eligible transactions. However, as a federally regulated bank, we conduct ongoing security and risk reviews on deposits. And certain deposit types, such as check deposits, are subject to manual review and may follow different funds availability timelines. While recent enhancements improve availability for certain transaction types, check deposits will continue to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis in accordance with our security protocols and regulatory standards. We recognize that this distinction could have been communicated more clearly and sincerely apologize for the confusion. It’s great to hear that our Client Services team was able to clarify the details and correct the misunderstanding, and we appreciate your patience throughout that process. Your feedback has been shared internally to help refine our processes and how polices—and any changes to them— are communicated moving forward. In the meantime, we are actively working on solutions to improve funds availability for check deposits in a way that is safe, secure, and reliable for our clients. If you have any additional questions about your account upgrade, our funds availability policy, or need further support, do not hesitate to reach out. Our Client Services team is always here to help. Only Forward, Grasshopper Bank

Savings account should be opened automatically, there are too many forms to fill for such as trivial thing
Response from Grasshopper BankDec 9, 2025
Hi Ilya, Thank you for sharing this feedback. We understand that additional forms can feel unnecessary, and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know how the process felt from your side. As part of our approach to responsible and transparent banking, we aim to ensure clients are only opening accounts or products they truly want, intend to use, and are genuinely useful for their needs, rather than creating extra accounts that may end up sitting dormant. Our goal is simply to help ensure each and every account serves a clear purpose and supports how you manage your finances. That said, we have shared your feedback with our product and leadership teams for consideration as a part of our ongoing strategy and planning sessions. In the meantime, your perspective highlights an opportunity for us to make it even easier for existing clients to open a second account or add another product when the need arises, so we will continue to explore ways to streamline the process and enhance the overall experience. If there’s anything else we can do to improve your experience or support your business, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re just a call or message away. Only Forward, Grasshopper Bank

Disappointed in the dollar limits for transfers. Not nearly high enough.
Response from Grasshopper BankDec 4, 2025
Hello Joseph, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand how limiting it can feel when transfer amounts don’t align with your business’s needs. As a federally regulated financial institution, we set transfer limits based on a combination of security requirements, industry best practices, and account activity history. These safeguards are in place to protect our clients and ensure the integrity of our digital banking platform. That said, we know every business operates differently, and your feedback helps us evaluate where adjustments may be needed. If you’d like to review options for increasing your limits or discuss what might be possible for your specific use case, our team would be glad to assist. In the meantime, we will continue working on introducing dynamic segmentation and developing new technology to further expedite funds availability, and we look forward to sharing the details with you once these enhancements are live. Only Forward, Grasshopper Bank

Although your customer support team is great, your delayed deposit and delayed payments via ACH are very disturbing. I am accustomed to a deposit being available next day and a payment via ACH going through 1 - 2 days max. I also have requested to have higher deposit amounts and higher payment amounts and it seems that isn't possible.. I guess this means you do not want my company to do business there? Your company has no idea what my company does nor how much money I may need to deposit or send on any day, so how can you put restrictions on my company in the first place?
Response from Grasshopper BankNov 26, 2025
Hello Lisa, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear that our transaction processing timelines and funds availability policy does not align with your expectations or what you may be accustomed to. We understand how important it is for your business to have predictable access to funds, and we want you to feel supported as your business grows. After reviewing your recent support interactions, we did not see any requests related to increasing deposit or payment limits. We maintain certain policies and procedures to protect both our clients and the bank during the early stages of a relationship, and, as part of those safeguards, we may grant temporary or permanent limit increases for various transaction types on a case-by-case basis. If this is something you would like to explore, we would be more than happy to review your account, better understand your business needs, and discuss available options. In the meantime, we are actively working on introducing safe, cost-effective technologies—such as FedNow and RTP—to deliver faster, reliable access to funds for our clients. Thank you again for your feedback. It helps us identify where our communication can be clearer and where we can continue improving the digital banking experience for all of our clients. Only forward, Grasshopper Bank

I signed up with this bank to explore and compare the features with my other business checking account. Unfortunately, I never received the debit card. Someone else got my mail, activated the debit card, and withdrew nearly $500. That is not secure at all.
Response from Grasshopper BankApr 14, 2025
Hi Christopher - Thank you for sharing your experience, and we're truly sorry to hear about what happened with your debit card. We understand how frustrating and concerning this situation must be. When using traditional U.S. mail, there is an unfortunate but real risk of bad actors intercepting mail and impersonating individuals. While this type of fraud is beyond our control, it’s one of the reasons we are a digital-first bank and strongly encourage the use of our virtual debit cards whenever possible. They provide faster, more secure access to your funds by avoiding the vulnerabilities of traditional mail and using a physical card with advanced card controls that give you greater visibility and control over how, when, and where your card is used. Please know that this is not the intended or desired outcome of your banking experience. Our team is actively investigating this incident and taking it very seriously. Based on what you've described, it appears this may be a case of identity theft, as someone would have needed access to your personal identifying information (PII) to activate the card, confirm account details, and withdraw the funds. We recommend continuing to monitor your account closely and consider placing fraud alerts or credit freezes as an added precaution. We’re here to support you and will continue working diligently to help resolve this issue. Protecting our clients is a top priority, and we're committed to helping you navigate next steps while also providing guidance on how to better safeguard your account moving forward. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

If it's not one thing it's another- I've had to call two dozen times in the last couple months over hitting deposit limits (not withdrawal but deposit) someone dropped the ball and they sat on our request such that our business couldn't clear a check for two weeks, despite me immediately submitting all they asked us for. Yet again Monday we hit another deposit limit. They won't let any check through that deviates in any way from the full legal name of your business. If your client abbreviates anything they will reject the check. Forget about the interest you'll be spending a ton of money in stamps mailing all your checks back to clients, or worse they will be super mad at you when they pay cancel check fees to reissue you the check. Just not good for business and we regret leaving Capital One Business UPDATED 8/23/24: there was absolutely no delay on our end the documentation turn around was same day. Check your records. We couldn’t accept checks for more than half a month because they dropped the ball. It was admitted on the phone but they want to act like it was our fault here
Response from Grasshopper BankAug 23, 2024
Hi Kiya - Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We regret to hear that you are less than satisfied with your experience and understand how these delays can impact your business operations. At Grasshopper, we have several precautionary measures in place to ensure the safety and integrity of our platforms. This includes requesting due diligence documentation to verify the business ownership of all signers and users. Upon review, it appears there was a delay in receiving the requested documents, which unfortunately led to further delays in processing your request for a permanent limit increase. In the meantime, temporary increases were approved. We work hard to uphold all appropriate policies and procedures to protect your funds and our bank. This also includes ensuring proper check writing and endorsement. Name mismatches can often cause returns, holds, and further business disruptions, so we strive to work closely with our clients to avoid these issues. We understand how critical it is for your business to have smooth transactions and how these situations can be frustrating, but we're committed to helping our clients navigate them as smoothly as possible. If you have any further concerns or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We value your feedback and are here to support you!
