I opened an IRA CD with a 1-year maturity. At the maturity date, I did not receive a notice of maturity, and as such, did not go into the bank to renew the CD. The rate went from 5.5 percent to 0.1 percent since I did not visit the bank to renew. When I did get a call from the bank, I went in and the woman told me since they didn't hear from me, they renewed the CD at the lower rate. So, the bank was able to renew my CD at 0.1 but not at the going rate of let's say 5.0. That cost me around $1,000 in interest. The bank used my money for their reserves to lend out more money, and make money, and pay me almost nothing in interest. I asked if they would retroactively pay the interest since I didn't receive the notice. They said no. I took my money and left, and will never go back. STAY AWAY FROM FIRST HORIZON!!
